Spiti Valley Bus Service : Frequency, Fare & Time Table

by Vargis.Khan

If you too are planning a trip to Spiti valley by public transport, below is some information on the Spiti valley bus service including the timings and fare per person. Unlike Ladakh, Spiti Valley is better connected when it comes to a regular bus service. HRTC runs several daily buses throughout the region and finding one to your desired destination is not going to be a problem at all.

Spiti Valley, which until the 90s was not even open for tourists, is now becoming one of the most well-known tourist destinations of our country. Thousands of people travel each year here, some by their own vehicle and some by public transport.

Shimla to Kaza Bus

There are two different bus services available from Shimla to Kaza. One starts from Shimla in the morning and another one in the evening.

The morning Bus from Shimla to Kaza leaves early in the morning between 6 – 7 AM. It reaches Reckong Peo by evening and halts there for the night. The next day, you will then board another bus from Reckong Peo to Kaza. This is a daily bus service and you can board this bus for your complete journey to Kaza, no matter what all places you want to cover in between.

For example, if Sarahan was on your itinerary, you can get down at Jeori, go to Sarahan, stay there for the night. The next day, you can come back to Jeori at the same time you reached here the day before and board the same Kaza bound bus from Shimla. Let us say Nako is next on your list then you can get down at Nako on Day 2 and board the same bus on Day 3 towards Kaza.

There are two evening buses starting from Shimla for Reckong Peo; one at 6:15 PM and the next one at 7:45 PM. This bus travels at night and reaches Peo in the morning. From Peo then, you will change the bus and board the one for Kaza.

Reckong Peo to Kaza Bus

Both the buses I explained above are actually for Shimla to Reckong Peo. The only difference is of the time. You can either board the one in the morning, reach Peo by evening, and rest for the night before you board the second Reckong Peo to Kaza bus. Or you can board either of the evening buses from Shimla, travel at night, and then change the bus at Peo to catch the one for Kaza the next morning. In this manner, you will actually be traveling non-stop from Shimla all the way to Kaza.

The Reckong Peo bus starts from the Peo bus stand at around 6 – 7 AM and reaches Kaza between 3 – 4 PM. So if you boarded the evening bus from Shimla, you will actually be in a local ordinary Bus for almost 24 hours till Kaza.

Manali to Kaza Bus

Shimla to Sangla Bus

A daily bus for Sangla starts from Shimla in the morning at 6.30 AM. If Chitkul was part of your itinerary, you will have to catch this bus to reach all the way to Sangla and from there, you will have to board a shared taxi to Chitkul. The fare for this bus would be around Rs. 150 and the shared taxi from Sangla to Chitkul would cost about Rs. 50.

It is just one bus and it usually gets a bit crowded so ensure you are reaching well in time to grab a set. If you were not boarding it from Shimla then you may not find a seat at all. It starts from Shimla at 6.30, reaches Narkanda at 10 AM and Sangla at 5 PM.

If you are plan carefully and match your timings, you can actually cover your entire trip through the above-mentioned 3 buses. Shimla to Kaza to Manali can be covered by boarding these every day and Chitkul can be covered via Sangla Bus.

All the major towns get covered by these buses. Some places like Kibber, Komik, and Chandratal are a little off the route but information on how to reach there is further covered in the article.

There is no direct bus from Manali to Chandratal. You will have to board the Kaza bound bus and get down at Chandratal diversion near Kunzum top. From the diversion, you will either have to walk the 14 kilometers towards Chandratal or hitchhike.

Hello Vargis,

I find online tickets for Delhi -> Shimla -> Reckong Peo in https://online.hrtchp.com/
But not for Reckon Peo -> Kaza or Kaza -> Reckon Peo. Is there a way I can book tickets online? Just concerned if I may not find seats in the bus.

There is no online booking for that bus Vinod. You will have to buy a ticket on the spot and find a seat.

The early morning bus from Reckong Peo to kaza, goes all the way to kaza on the same day? Or halts at Tabo for night?
If it halts at Tabo, is there a way to reach Dhankhar gompa the same evening? I feel a night at Tabo is a waste.. I would rather spend that night at Dhankhar and reach kaza the next day. How can I reach Dhankar? What is the transport availabile?

Hi Vargis
Are the buses between Manali and Kaza operational from May? I know in winters due to snow that route is closed and one can visit Kaza via Reckong Peo.

Vargis.Khan April 10, 2021 - 7:41 am

Hi Priyanka – The bus starts as soon as the road clears and BRO allows civilian traffic. It is not operational right now but since the pass is open, my guess is that the bus will surely start in May, provided that the COVID situation doesn’t force the government tourist entry in the region like last year

Hi Mr.Khan,

Thanks a lot for providing such amazing content. I have travelled to lahaul and Spiti a lot in the past and my last trip was in 2011. I am planning a trip to Spiti this year provided the COVID19 situation improves. My query is regarding the arrival time of hrtc bus in kaza from Manali -. You had mentioned the bus reaches kaza by 4 pm. Considering the huge traffic jams due to tourist visiting rohtang in recent years, do you still feel one can reach kaza by 4 pm.

Vargis.Khan August 10, 2019 - 4:05 pm

It depends on the time you have in hand. Frequency of public transport in Pin Valley is not that great so if you are short on days, stay in Dhankar.

[…] Public buses connect most of the towns in Spiti Valley, but they do not have the most reassuring safety record. They are known to be overcrowded and drivers may be tired and overworked. That said, it’s a cheap option, and as more tourists plan their itineraries through Spiti Valley, bus services are becoming a more viable option. 1)Does the kaza to Lhalung bus goes via Dhankar?

2)I’m planning to reach Batal from Manali and stay there for the night and the next day early morning go to Chandratal and stay there for the night and return to Kaza or Losar the next day. Is that a good option or go to Kaza directly from Manali? I’m planning to exit via Shimla.

Vargis.Khan June 4, 2019 - 12:12 am

Bhai do Manali to Chandratal, stay for the night and then go to Kaza. It will be better that way.

Sumana Sethuraman May 30, 2019 - 11:44 am

Thank you for this beautiful, comprehensive blog. I’ve been at it for more than 5 hours now and I have planned my entire trip to Spiti with my students. I am a class teacher for grade 6 and I will be travelling with 8 of my students in the month of September, simply to study Geology and Astronomy, outdoors.

I have created the itinerary based on the details and timings on your blog. I couldn’t find spiti local buses online of the internet, to verify the timings.

I want to reconfirm if there is a bus from Kaza to Shimla in the evening at 7pm as you have mentioned here at the end of your blog.

Also, below is my plan. Any inputs will help!

Day 1 – 16 Sep, Mon
From Delhi – Catch the 8pm Bus to Shimla.

Day 2 – 17 Sep, Tue
Reach Tutikandi bus stop,Shimla around 7am. Take the 6:15 pm bus from Shimla to Reckong Peo.

Day 3 – 18 Sep, Wed
Reach Reckong Peo in the morning. Explore this village in the day. Take the 1pm bus to Kaza. Reach Kaza late night. Check in at hotel.

Day 4 – 19 Sep, Thu
Take the 4pm bus to Kibber (Takes 1 hour). View of the Spiti River along the way. Explore the village, Monastery. Homestay with locals.
Stargazing at night.

Day 5 – 20 Sep, Fri

Stargazing at night.

Day 6 – 21 Sep, Sat
Explore the fossiliferous regions in and around Kibber.
Stargazing at night.

Day 7 – 22 Sep, Sun
Study during the day, outdoors.
Stargazing early morning. Catch Sunrise today.

Day 8 – 23 Sep, Mon

Take 7am bus back to Kaza (Takes 1 hour). Check for buses available to Shimla. Either morning or evening.

Travel Shimla to Delhi by night bus.

Awaiting your response.

Thank you!

Vargis.Khan May 31, 2019 - 8:08 pm

Your itinerary looks good Mr. Sethuraman. And yes, there is an evening bus from Kaza.

Rahul June 16, 2019 - 10:53 am

Hi Vargis- The bus which leave from Kaza to Shimla in evening, reaches what time in Shimla?

Ankur Mahajan July 30, 2019 - 9:41 am

Hello Sumana Sethuraman,

Sharing my experience after my recent visit to reckong peo Kalpa and chitkul from -delhi

its nice and brave of you to take the children to such a tour at young age. Just a advise as you are taking 8 kids with you so total you are 9. where ever possible do an online bus booking and hotel booking as it will be difficult for you to do 9 people booking for seats in ordinary bus on the spot. Also luggage will be quite a lot per person as it would be little cold in night times in Kalpa and more in Kaza. Will the kids be able to carry that luggage for so many days.

Unless the cost is issue you can/should do tempo traveler from delhi/Shimla to cover all the places which will avoid you from all the hassle of bus booking and you can stop it anywhere where you want.

A semi deluxe bus HRTC bus runs from chandigarh at 17: 50 in evening to reckong peo and reaches reckongpeo before 8 AM. fare 780 Rs around its seats are little better than the ordinary ones. I had gone on this bus in June 2019. It’s a 14 hour journey as per HRTC site but we reached earlier then that.

Sharing one number of Dhaba owner at Kalpa who was very helpful and guided us 9816810053
After Rampur the roads are not good and very bumpy.

Road to Pooh is very bad. kaza was not open till june end as there was still SNOW there. if you are returning from same route to delhi you will have to break the journey else it will become very tiring for all.

Always advisable to reach your destination either early morning or by afternoon so as to avoid getting lost in the darkness of night and looking for hotels. So take your bus for morning time to reach your destination by afternoon/evening

If you leave by afternoon bus from reckongpeo you will not be able to reach kibber/ kaza same day. Leave in early morning bus to reach by evening.

Not aware if any bus is there from Kaza to Shimla but there is direct bus from reckong peo to Shimla and to delhi as well. I will not recommend taking direct bus to delhi for 20 hours in ordinary bus it will be too tiring so breaking the journey would be ideal.

Vargis.Khan July 30, 2019 - 12:37 pm

Thank you so much for sharing this valuable info Ankur. I appreciate it.

Kruti May 14, 2019 - 8:55 am

Hello! I had two queries:

1. Would you be able to give any details on travel from Kaza to Losar? Is there a bus/shared cabs that frequent between these two places?

2. We have planned to spend a night in a homestay in Kibber and leave for Losar the next day. Would it be possible to travel to Losar directly from Kibber or would it be better to come to Kaza and then head to Losar.

Thank you!

Vargis.Khan May 14, 2019 - 2:07 pm

1. You can board the Kaza Manali Bus and get down at Losar. Shared cabs too will be easily to find for Losar.
2. Better come back to Kaza. Frequency of transport between Kibber to Losar will be rare.

Arnab Das March 24, 2019 - 12:09 pm

Hello sir. Your information is very helpful. I am planning for a solo trip for Spiti valley in April second half. Use public transport, hitchhiking and trekking. My plan is Chandigarh – Peo – Kaza – Chandra Tal – Manali – Shimla – Chandigarh. Is that feasible in this time of the year? Can I get enough hitchhiking help in this route? And any details for the Kaza – Chandra tal – Manali portion?

Vargis.Khan March 24, 2019 - 4:57 pm

It will be better to delay the plan if you want to cover Manali side as well. That route will not open until mid May. Rest of it you can visit in April

Hello Vargis,

I want to draw your attention towards misleading Fact in your above article. There is no such bus in Morning from shimla from Kaza. There is only one Bus plying from Shimla to Kaza and that too starts from Shimla at 06:30 PM.

So please correct the facts above

Vargis.Khan November 20, 2018 - 1:15 pm

Hello Pankaj – Which particular bus are you referring to? I just checked and one bus from Shimla to Kaza between 6 – 7 AM is what I have mentioned as well.

Pankaj KUmar November 21, 2018 - 5:09 am

I have also checked. There is only one Bus from Shimla to Kaza run by HRTC and that too at 6:30 PM. Please check with the source. It should be between 6-7 PM not 6-7 AM.

Vargis.Khan November 21, 2018 - 2:20 pm

Thanks for catching that brother. When I traveled, this bus was in the morning. They may have changed the timing of it, I will find out and update.

Sudipto Dey September 29, 2018 - 9:18 am

Hi Vargis,

We have a plan to visit spiti in october,18. In case road will be closed from Kaza to Manali, we have to back from Kaza to Simla. So is there any bus HRCTC bus service from Kaza to Simla on daily basis?

If it is then what is the timing?
Is there any chance of closing this bus route in October because as far as I know even in winter this road remains open.

Please help me. Thanks 🙂

Vargis.Khan September 29, 2018 - 4:26 pm

Hi Sudipto – Yes the Shimla – Kaza bus remains operational in October. It was shut down in between due to bad weather but has resumed again now.

Sudipto Dey September 29, 2018 - 6:03 pm

So if I want to go from Kaza to Simla, I can get it from Kaza at 7 am right?

Vargis.Khan September 30, 2018 - 7:53 am

Yes you can

Himani Kapoor September 17, 2018 - 9:54 am

Hi Vargis,

Thanks for your prompt reply. It really helped a lot during my visit to spiti in first week of September. I just wanted to know, is there any way to reach leh from kaza if I’ll be travelling solo? Is there any HRTC bus running between these routes or I have to go back to manali and then have to board a bus to Leh in the morning at 4.30 A.M just like I did it for Kaza. Your suggestions are always welcome.

Vargis.Khan September 17, 2018 - 5:56 pm

Hi Himani- For Kaza to Leh, you will either have to reach Manali or better yet, do Kaza to Keylong and then Keylong to Leh. There is no direct bus between Kaza and Leh.

Jisah kattil August 17, 2019 - 11:37 am

I am planning to travel in this route shimla- kaza- keylong- leh
For kaza to keylong.. if I board the kaza- Manali bus and get down at gramphu, will I get a bus/ shared taxi from gramphu to keylong?..
I want to then take the morning bus from keylong to Leh.

Vargis.Khan August 18, 2019 - 4:07 am

Yes you can get a shared cab from Gramphu or hitchhike.

Kimi September 12, 2018 - 3:32 pm

Hi Vargis. Amazing writing on the travel. You have made it look so comfortable for everyone. I am planning my trip through your experience :). I have a question. I would be travelling via public transport only till Kaza and will reach there around Oct 5. Not sure how to visit Kibber, Hikkim and other villages from there. Since we are going to be 2 people, who will not opt for bike, what should we look for there?

I hope you are doing well.

First of all, thanks for putting together this incredible blog.
We are planning to travel to Spiti valley via Shimla as per the itinerary below using public transport only, starting on 8th September from Shimla.

I have three questions:

1. Is this itinerary doable solely via public transport?
2. Is there any place in the itinerary you can recommend us to omit/add?
3. How is the current weather condition at the moment?

Our tentative itinerary:

Saturday, 8th Sept : Reach Shimla from Delhi
Sunday, 9th Sept : Take a bus to Sangla and stay there overnight.
Monday, 10th Sept : Reach Reckong Peo and stay there overnight (visit Kalpa during the day)
Tuesday, 11th Sept : Take the Kaza bound bus and get down either at Nako or Tabo (please suggest which location is better)
Wednesday, 12th Sept : Start from Nako/Tabo and reach Dhankar (overnight at Dhankar)
Thursday, 13th Sept : Start early from Dhakar and reach Kaza. Sightseeing in Kaza covering Langza, Komic, Ki Monastery, Kibber and Hikkim. Overnight at Kaza.
Friday, 14th Sept : Start from Kaza and reach Chandratal (Overnight at Chandratal)
Saturday, 15th Sept : Start from Chandratal and reach Manali
Sunday, 16th Sept : Manli to Delhi

Vargis.Khan September 5, 2018 - 12:27 am

Hi AD Bhai,

Yes your itinerary is easily doable by public transport. You will get the bus without any problem. I find Nako to be better than Tabo. It is raining now around Shimla and Manali so please pack accordingly.

AD September 5, 2018 - 9:46 am

Thank you. Will let you know how it went 🙂 .

Vargis.Khan September 5, 2018 - 12:46 pm

You are welcome !!!

Marcela September 1, 2018 - 5:35 pm

Hello Vargis, I have few questions for you. Could you say to me when does bus leave Shimla to Kaza? When the bus come to Pooh? When the bus leave Pooh to Kaza? Do you think that these buses are crowded? Should I buy ticket before? Do I need book some place in Pooh for sleeping per night? And do you now how much does bus ticket cost? Thank you very much for your answer:-)

Vargis.Khan September 2, 2018 - 9:14 am

1. Shimla to Kaza bus leaves in the morning
2. Arrives at Pooh the next day at around 10-11 AM
3. Impossible to predict but usually not.
4. You will have to buy ticket on the spot.
5. No need to book
6. Cost from where to where?

abhijit barman August 18, 2018 - 6:48 pm

Hi i have found lot of info here. I want to know whether i can book these bus tickets online or not. In hrtc website there is no bus from shimla to kaza or recong peo to kaza. Can u help? Thanks

Vargis.Khan September 2, 2018 - 9:12 am

There are local HRTC buses and cannot be booked. You will have to buy an on the spot ticket.

Kate July 31, 2018 - 7:54 am

Hello. Is it really safe to travel to Spiti Valley via bus during 15 August – 31 August? I’ve seen a lot of Himachal Pradesh news with buses falling into gorge and valleys and stuff.

Vargis.Khan July 31, 2018 - 3:32 pm

That really is a tough question to answer. No one can guarantee whether it is safe or not. Yes, you are right. Lot of people die up in the mountains each year in accidents, landslides etc during monsoon. I guess it is a risk you will have to take.

adithya vin (@adithyavin) July 17, 2018 - 2:15 pm

This is the best blog about spiti valley. Can you please help with these question:

1) What are the timings for public transportation available from Shimla to Kafnu?

2) After my trek I have 3 days(around 27th July) to spend. What will be the climate around that time in Kaza?

3) Is it possible to rent a bike in Kaza to roam around and see places? If not what are the other possible options available here?

Thank you in advance.

Vargis.Khan July 17, 2018 - 2:44 pm

Hi Adithya,

1. I am not sure about this bus.
2. July is mostly warm at days but cold at nights in Kaza.
3. Ye you can easily find a bike on rent in Kaza.

adithya vin (@adithyavin) July 17, 2018 - 4:35 pm

Thanks bro for very quick replay. 🙂

Vargis.Khan July 18, 2018 - 2:48 pm

You are welcome !!! 🙂

Marie July 16, 2018 - 4:53 pm

I’m planning to fly from New Delhi to Srinagar, then take a bus to Leh to visit Pangong Tso Lake and Tso Moriri. Is it a bus going from Zorkot to Kaza? And then From Kaza to the Flower Valley? We will be there early october.
Thanks a lot for your answer.

Marie July 16, 2018 - 4:58 pm

I meant Karzok no Zorkot, sorry 🙂

Vargis.Khan July 16, 2018 - 5:52 pm

There is no direct bus from Karzok to Kaza. You will have to go back to Leh, then come to Keylong from Leh and then look for a mode of commute from Keylong to Kaza.

SANTANU July 13, 2018 - 10:25 am

hi vargis i want to know if the kalpa- tabo- Kaza – Pin Valley – Kibber – Chandertaal Lake tour from shimla can be done in march, will roads be open that is for car, bus, and what’s the best time to visit if i want to see snowfall. is is possible to visit Pin Valley – Kibber – Chandertaal Lake and kunzum pass at march or april. at thids time will there be snowfall.

Vargis.Khan July 13, 2018 - 1:28 pm

In March you can only do Shimla to Kaza and back. Chandratal and Manali – Kaza route will be closed in March and only opens by May. And yes, you will find snow in Spiti in March

SANTANU July 18, 2018 - 5:47 pm

thanks for your reply, is pin valley, kibber, chandrataal lake open to visit from kaza in march?. that is,if i visit and return via kaza kalpa route only. will bus services be open from kaza to these places in march. And is march a good time to visit to see snowfall, or February. i am very interested to see chandrataal lake in snow.

Vargis.Khan July 18, 2018 - 7:48 pm

Chandratal will not be open in either of these months. Pin valley and Kibber will be accessible. Bus service will be available as well depending on the weather and Feb is actually better in terms of snow.

SUMANTA BHATTACHARYA July 2, 2018 - 9:29 am

Hi Vargis, I am planning for a trip for 4-5 days in spiti valley in mid July, mainly Kaza with my wife by only public transport (bus, share taxi etc.) excluding the train journey up and down Kolkata-Delhi. I am from West Bengal and willing to start the tour from kashmiri gate bus stand, Delhi via Rampur-Bushahar-Reckong peo-Poo-Nako-Sumdo-Kaza. Can I return via Batal-Chhatru-Rohtang pass-Manali way ?? Is there any bus available from Kaza bus stand to Manali ?? Please help.

Vargis.Khan July 2, 2018 - 4:18 pm

Hi Sumanta – Yes there is daily bus from Kaza to Manali that starts from Kaza bus stand early in the morning everyday at about 6 AM.

SUMANTA BHATTACHARYA July 3, 2018 - 8:15 am

I need your advice and suggestion if it is possible and viable to travel in and around spiti valley( kaza, Hikkim, Key monastery, and locality around it) in Mid July ( possibly 19-25 th july) for monsoon season. I am hesitating.

Vargis.Khan July 3, 2018 - 1:56 pm

It is possible. You can rent a cab in Kaza and visit all these places.

SUMANTA BHATTACHARYA July 6, 2018 - 4:33 am

hi Vargis, it sounds good that I can cover the spiti valley in the monsoon season. But what makes me hasitating that about my itinerary. My plan:- mail- booked )

Now my curiocity is can I fuifill this Itinerary ??? Is there any chance of disrupting my journey due to rain/land-slides or other issue ?? can you recommend this plan ?? I am travelling with my wife- she is nervous about the journey. PLEASE SUGGEST

Vargis.Khan July 6, 2018 - 4:38 am

Is your itinerary good? Yes
Is it doable? Definitely
Should you proceed? Yes
Is there anything that can disrupt the plan? It is monsoon season bro and who can really predict mother nature? But yes, you will be in a Bus so you will at least not run the risk of getting wet. People are still traveling to Spiti is what I can tell you for sure.

Rajan July 14, 2018 - 12:12 am

Hey Samantha even i am planning for same place on same days
we are couple.
plzz contact me here.

Mayur Gijam June 29, 2018 - 3:57 pm

Hello Vargis Bhai,

After a failed attempt in May, I am finally set to visit Chandrataal and few destination in Ladakh during this July

Below is my schedule

Saturday Delhi to Manali
Sunday Manali to Batal then Chandrataal
Monday Chandrataal to Batal then keylong
Tuesday Keylong to Leh
Wednesday Leh to Turtuk
Thursday Turtuk
Friday Turtuk to Leh
Saturday Leh to Hanle
Sunday Hanle to Leh

Vargis Bhai, Can you suggest by what time i need to be at batal to get Kaza to Manali bus 😐 after returning from chandrataal

Also, Can I get bus at Gramphuu or Rohtaang which will take me to Keylong as I need to catch bus from there next day

Awaiting your responses 🙂 Thank You

Vargis.Khan June 29, 2018 - 6:21 pm

Bhai the bus from Kaza starts early in the morning and from there, it won’t take more than 3 – 4 hours to get to Batal so make sure you are there before 10 AM.

Finding a bus could be hard and may take time at Gramphoo but you can always board a shared taxi or hitch hike to Keylong.

You will also have to add a day at Leh to get permits after you arrive here.

Mayur Gijam June 29, 2018 - 7:16 pm

Actually after reaching Leh, I was planning to take Leh to Diskit morning Bus then Diskit to Turtuk afternoon bus… Same for hanle(if permitted)

If I do so, would still need permits for travelling through bus

Tirthankar July 2, 2018 - 2:40 pm

Can you please take me when the bus will start from kaza for Batal? I am plaing to visit kaza and chandratal in Sept 2 week. Thank you sir 🙂

Vargis.Khan July 2, 2018 - 4:10 pm

It starts early in the morning from Kaza

Mayur Gijam July 2, 2018 - 5:50 pm

Hello Vargis bhai… Actually after reaching Leh, I was planning to take Leh to Diskit morning Bus then Diskit to Turtuk afternoon bus… Same for hanle(if permitted)

If I do so, would still need permits for travelling through bus

Vargis.Khan July 2, 2018 - 6:00 pm

Yes you will still need the permits Mayur Bhai. Permits are issued on per person basis and not per vehicle. So even if you were crossing the check post on foot, you will still need to produce your permit.

Mayur Gijam July 2, 2018 - 6:15 pm

Ohh :/ this was something which I didn’t figured

Would I also need permit while crossing Rohtang pass in Kullu to Kaza bus I would be boarding from Kullu

Vargis.Khan July 2, 2018 - 6:18 pm

Rohtang permit on the other hand is issued on per vehicle basis and not per person. So if you were in a bus, you do not have to worry about Rohtang permit.

Mayur Gijam July 2, 2018 - 6:22 pm

I really appreciate that you are responding so late in midnight

Thank you bhai 🙂

Vargis.Khan July 2, 2018 - 9:18 pm

You are welcome Mayur Bhai. Let me know if you need any other help.

Mayur Gijam July 10, 2018 - 11:02 am

Vargis Bhai can you suggest on Keylong to Leh bus 😐

As I will hitchhike from Batal to Keylong then I need to take bus on next day from Keylong to Leh

As I read in your blog there is one bus from Keylong to Leh.. I am not worried about whether I will get that morning bus from Keylong or not

Vargis.Khan July 10, 2018 - 1:40 pm

You are right Mayur Bhai. There is just one early mooring HRTC bus from Keylong bus stand.

Mayue Gijam July 10, 2018 - 1:53 pm

Can I board that bus even if I don’t have ticket from Manali or as mentioned Manali people will have their seats first mentioned on their tickets or Manali to Leh is alltogether different bus than Keylong to Leh 😐

Vargis.Khan July 10, 2018 - 2:09 pm

No there is no allotment system. You just buy the ticket from the counter and board the bus. Just make sure you are there at the bus stand early in the morning.

Tani April 11, 2021 - 5:37 am

Hi Vargis

A great read! I am planning to travel to spiti from Manali on 23rd April. Since you mentioned busses are not functional now, suggest me the cheapest mode to travel to spiti valley from manali. I am a solo girl and hence want some safe options to travel. Also suggest me some alternative travel plan to Kaza from Delhi in case route from Manali is not accessible. Thanks in advance.

Vargis.Khan April 11, 2021 - 7:45 am

Hi Tani – The only other way is to travel is by shared cabs. You can get those from the Manali bus stand itself. If you want my opinion, delay your plan by a month or two, please. If you do plan to go, make sure you book your stay well in advance and carry your COVID Negative report done within the last 96 hours. A lot of hotels are still not accepting guests due to the rising covid situation.

Maneesh June 10, 2018 - 7:49 am

Hello sir,
Thanks for giving these informations,
But I have questions. I want to cover chandartal also, so if I’m leaving manali at 6 am by bus then
1. when I’ll be reached at Chandartal by hitchhiking or shared taxi from batal?
2. How can we come back to kaza from chandartal?

Vargis.Khan June 11, 2018 - 3:26 pm

Hi Maneesh,

1. Yes
2. Hitchhike from Chandratal to Batal and then look for a mode of transport from Batal to Kaza

ABHIJIT SAHA June 26, 2018 - 10:09 am

Dear Sir, Is there any direct bus service from SANGLA to SHIMLA or delhi ?

Vargis.Khan June 26, 2018 - 12:37 pm

Hi Abhijit – There is no direct bus. You will have to go to Reckong Peo first and board a bus from there.

ABHIJIT SAHA June 26, 2018 - 5:25 pm

Thank u Sir, for your reply. However I called up directly to Sangla bus stand today at 10.52 pm and they hv confirmed that everyday a bus leaves Sangla for Shimla direcltly at 7.15 am. Phone no. Is 07807275145.

Vargis.Khan June 26, 2018 - 6:07 pm

Aditya Veer Jain June 8, 2018 - 9:32 pm

Vargis.Khan June 9, 2018 - 6:17 pm

Sorry brother. I am not sure about the timings from Kullu

Rahul Nath May 25, 2018 - 3:50 am

Vargis.Khan May 25, 2018 - 3:06 am

shanth May 28, 2018 - 1:42 pm

Thank you so much

Akhil Reddy May 24, 2018 - 2:17 pm

Hi. How long does the bus take to reach Manali from Kaza on an average day and how much longer with delays?

Vargis.Khan May 24, 2018 - 3:49 pm

Manali to Kaza is a journey of about 7-8 hours. Delay will depend on how many destinations you add in between.

Sarthak Grover May 19, 2018 - 3:27 pm

Hey Vargis.

I’m really impressed by the awesome content on your website and would like to thank you for it.

I’m planning a road trip to Spiti with a group of friends in early June. What would be the best route to take among all these routes?

Vargis.Khan May 20, 2018 - 7:04 pm

Hi Sarthak, Are you planning to go by Bus?

shanth May 18, 2018 - 8:40 am

Hi Vargis,

I thank you for the wonderful, informative blog. I wanted to know whether local bus services available with in sitii mean to go to kibber, key ,langzar etc. by 1st week of june. If available can you please provide me the bus timing details.

Vargis.Khan May 18, 2018 - 1:26 pm

Hi Shanth, Yes the bus service is available. Please do take a look at the posts below.

Goutham May 14, 2018 - 11:53 am

Hi Vargis, first off let me thank you not just for this blog entry but all your other one also, which are a real treasure trove for budget backpackers like me. This may not be the best place to ask, but it would be great if you could compile something similar for Lahaul especially, Keylong towards, Udaipur, Khanjar, and Killar. Cheers!

Vargis.Khan May 15, 2018 - 4:59 pm

Hi Goutham, Thank you so much for your kind words, I really appreciate it. I will definitely take up your idea and put together similar list for Lahaul valley as well.

Abhijit Nayak May 12, 2018 - 2:37 pm

What’s the timing for the Kaza to Shimla bus??

Vargis.Khan May 12, 2018 - 4:55 pm

Early morning from Kaza

Rahul Nath May 10, 2018 - 5:04 pm

Hi Vargis, thanks for the info. My friends and I are traveling to Spiti this July for Pin Bhaba Trek. Is there a direct bus from Shimla to Kafnu? We want to include Chandratal during our return from Kaza to Manali, please suggest a possible way out. Thanks

Vargis.Khan May 10, 2018 - 5:49 pm

Hi Rahul, Just board any bus from Shimla to Reckong Peo, Sangla or Kaza and get down at Wangtu. From Wangtu, look for a shared cab or any other mode of transport to get to Kafnu.

Rahul Nath May 11, 2018 - 2:45 am

Thanks Vargis. How can we include Chandratal in our return journey from Kaza to Manali? Any suggestions

Vargis.Khan May 11, 2018 - 1:16 pm

You will have to take the Kaza to Manali bus, get down at Kunzum Pass and walk 14 kilometers to the lake; or hitch hike.

Mayur Gijam May 7, 2018 - 6:16 am

Hello, I am planning for Shimla to Kaza

Can you just confirm how many bus there daily?

How much time it takes? If it is same day Kaza or on 2nd day

Thanks 🙂

Vargis.Khan May 7, 2018 - 4:56 pm

2 buses daily and it is 2 days time

Mayur Gijam May 9, 2018 - 12:48 pm

Ohh :/ Is there any way to get started in morning
from Shimla and reach kaza by the same day end ?

Vargis.Khan May 9, 2018 - 1:31 pm

No way. It is too long a journey for a single day.

Shruti May 5, 2018 - 8:45 am

We are 3 friends travelling to Spiti from 6th May-13th May.
We reach Delhi on 6th morning and take a cab from Delhi to shimla.
And next day on 7th we plan to take a bus to Kaza.It will take an entire day I guess. How much will cab cost from shimla to kaza?

What places would you suggest ? We intend to cover Kaza Key monastery chandratal lake and a couple of nearby villages.
For internal transportation too we dont want to rely on public transport and want to rent a car. Its pretty last minute. Awaiting your reply. Your website has been very helpful till now to understand many things

Vargis.Khan May 6, 2018 - 2:51 am

Hello, You mean you want to hire a taxi for the entire trip from Shimla to Kaza?

Shruti May 6, 2018 - 2:59 am

Yes we are planning. Otherwise what are our options to reach Kaza?

Vargis.Khan May 6, 2018 - 3:04 am

Taxi is a good idea if you do not want to rely on public transport. Talk to Jamaica at 9418200183. He is a local from Kaza and can arrange a taxi for you from Shimla. Tell him you are a friend of mine and he will get you a cab at very reasonable rates.

Shruti May 6, 2018 - 3:07 am

If we take a public transport form Shimla, are there any buses that reach from Shimla to kaza same day? Or every bus halts at Pooh for over night stay?
What are the places would you suggest we stay on day 2,3 and 4. First day we would stay at Kaza. We plan to visit Chandratal Lake too. When should we visit ?

Vargis.Khan May 7, 2018 - 3:08 am

There is no one day bus from Shimla to Kaza. It is a 2 days journey and the bus halts at Reckong Peo for the night. Take a look at the article below. If you want to travel by public transport, then this should help you.

Surajit Mondal May 2, 2018 - 6:54 pm

Thank you so much, for your feedback and sharing such informative blog 🙂

Vargis.Khan May 3, 2018 - 7:10 pm

You are welcome. And thank you for dropping an appreciating note.

Prithwish Karforma April 30, 2018 - 7:40 pm

Very helpful! We are a couple of college students planning to reach Kaza via Manali around 8th June, 2018. Do you think bus services to Kaza from Manali will be available by then?
We also have a few questions regarding a night’s stay at Chandrataal. Since we will be going there from Kaza by bus,we will be completely dependent on hitching a ride up to the camp grounds. Do you think that is a safe option?

Vargis.Khan April 30, 2018 - 8:35 pm

The road will be open by 8th June but not sure whether the bus service will start or not. It depends on the weather really. Hitchhiking is your only choice to Chandratal because there is no mode of transport available here. It is safe though.

Surajit Mondal April 29, 2018 - 8:18 pm

Dear Mr. Khan, We, Mr.&Mrs. Mondal, from Kolkata would like to travel to Lahaul & Spiti in the month of October 2018 by using the public transport and shared vehicle. That on 6th getting Kalka Mail from Howrah and reaching Kalka in the early morning on 8th. Then to take toy train to Simla, and to stay there for that night. On 9th taking bus for Sarahan (night stay there), next on 10th to Chitkul via. Sangla and to stay the night at Chitkul. Then on 11th move to Kalpa via. Reckong peo, from there to Nako on 12th and next on 13th to Kaza for two days stay. On 15th from Kaza to Chandratal via. Losar, Kumzum la, intend to stay night beside the lake. Then on 16th to Keylong for two days. And on 18th to Manali via. Rohtang pass, thereafter return to Kolkata via. Delhi. Is this itinerary realistic? Please suggest me. And thanks for sharing all the relevant information.
Surajit Mondal

Vargis.Khan April 30, 2018 - 7:08 pm

Hello Mr. Mondal – Not sure if you have already but in case you did not, then please take a look at the post below. This should help you plan your journey better.

Pawan Singh Mehta April 18, 2018 - 10:00 am

Super Awesome Blog. just wanted to know if I can book the tickets online for above-mentioned buses. I want to take the bus from Shimla to Kaza. Please provide me the link from I can do the online booking.

Vargis.Khan April 18, 2018 - 4:59 pm

Thanks Pawan. There is no booking system available. These are just local buses that you board on the spot and buy a ticket from the conductor.

Shekar Patwardhan April 6, 2018 - 5:33 am

Hi Sir,

Beautifully written and very informative. Sir, i am going to spiti in the month of july via shimla. I tried to search and book a ticket to kaza from shimla, but there are no buses that serve this route on the HRTC website. Can you let me know, if we can book tickets in advance and if yes, how. Also, if you can help me with the frequency of buses to kaza from Shimla or Recongpeo.

Vargis.Khan April 7, 2018 - 10:07 pm

There is no booking system available Shekhar Bhai. These are just local HRTC buses available that you board from the bus sand and buy a ticket from the conductor on the spot. It is a daily bus from Shimla to Peo and Peo to Kaza.

Shekar Patwardhan April 8, 2018 - 3:09 am

Noted. Thank you very much Sir. I confirmed it through HRTC too. There are daily buses from Reckong Peo to Kaza at 7am

Vargis.Khan April 8, 2018 - 5:43 pm

Absolutely brother. When you return, would you mind sharing a few lines on how your experience with the bus was? I have never traveled to Spiti in a bus and always wanted to know how the actual experience goes.

Vargis.Khan March 28, 2018 - 5:04 pm

Hi Gayatri – I will recommend consulting a doctor, a pediatrician, in this aspect. I can advise in terms of a short trip but if you are going to be there for a month, best check with a doctor for precautions etc.

HI, i’m planning a trip to Spiti Valley from Shimla from June 1 this year, I think the bus is available that time to Kaza…, but i’m not sure if there’s bus from Kaza to Manali or Keylong about June 8 ? (bus often run starting June 15 you mentioned above) If there’s no bus that time, can we take a share jeep from Kaza to Manali or Keylong? And also can we take a share jeep from Manali to Leh after June 10 this year??

Vargis.Khan March 22, 2018 - 6:28 pm

Hello Yuchen,

1. Yes there will be a bus from Shimla to Kaza around your date of travel.
2. Yes you will be easily able to find a local shared taxi from Kaza to Manali.
3. And yes, there will be shared cabs available from Manali to Leh as well.

Avijit Kundu March 19, 2018 - 12:05 pm

It is well informative. we(10people) want to go Kaza from Manali on july last by public bus. Is there any way to get reserved seat for 10 people? Please inform me.
Thanks in advance.

Vargis.Khan March 19, 2018 - 5:44 pm

Thanks Avijit. There is no booking system for these buses. There are just local HRTC buses that you buy a ticket for on the spot and board.

Prashanth March 12, 2018 - 9:59 am

Hi, Whats the best way to reach from Sangla to Chandigarh on May 22nd 2018. Buses will be there ? or can i get shared taxi? Are there overnight buses too ?

Vargis.Khan March 12, 2018 - 8:11 pm

From Sangla you will have to catch the noon bus to Reckong Peo and from there, catch a bus for Chandigarh.

Md Rajib Hossen March 9, 2018 - 3:49 pm

Please reply Sir as the replies I have read are very helpful

Rakesh Suryavanshi

Vargis.Khan March 5, 2018 - 5:49 pm

Hello Rakesh Bhai,

There is really no snow anywhere near Manali this year. You will not find any snow for a 2-3 hours journey. Your only chance is to take a drive towars Rohtang Pass, go as far as the checkpost and see if you are able to see some snow there.

Rakesh Suryavanshi March 7, 2018 - 10:40 am

As you Say Sir, and thanks for your guidance

Vargis.Khan March 7, 2018 - 2:26 pm

Sudhanshu February 15, 2018 - 6:22 pm

Sir, i live in panchkula. And i want to do spiti from shimla side using the public transport. I can get the bus from Chandigarh 17 to kalpa

I need to make the most out of it in 4-5 days. Can you suggest the best route and must visit places ?

With gratitude

Vargis.Khan February 15, 2018 - 6:39 pm

Hello Sudhanshu – When are you planning to travel?

Ankur Gohil January 5, 2018 - 4:28 pm

Your information is super helpful. I am doing a spiti backpack trip in 2nd week of February. I wanted to know if HRTC buses will be available from shimla side during that period?

Vargis.Khan January 5, 2018 - 5:37 pm

Hi Ankur – HRTC buses in Spiti usually remain unavailable during peak winters, due to all the snow and bad weather. You will have to rely on shared cabs and even that will remain scarce.

Dhaval Jajal February 2, 2018 - 6:06 am

What about 1st week of April..buses will be operational that time ?

Vargis.Khan February 2, 2018 - 4:16 pm

Between Shimla and Kaza yes but not between Manali and Kaza

Nagesh A December 28, 2017 - 7:23 am

hello sir ,
i am nagesh , ihave travelled spiti twice in my own vehicle but i want travell spiti in public transport (HPRTC) in the month of january ,so i wanted to ask you is it possible to travel in bus to spiti in the month of january

Vargis.Khan January 2, 2018 - 8:28 pm

Hello Nagesh – There is no bus service in Spiti during peak winters. You will have to rely on shared cabs only, that too if the weather is clear.

ASWIN ARAVIND T November 22, 2017 - 1:44 pm

Hi Sir,

I have a plan to visit Shimla and Kaza in december end(from 28th dec to 31st), is the public transport will be available during this time???

Please advise

Vargis.Khan November 22, 2017 - 2:54 pm

Bus service will most probably not be available as this is the time it starts to snow heavily. You may have to depend on shared cabs to move around.

Anmol November 11, 2017 - 2:24 pm

Hello sir,
I am planning a trip to Kaza from Delhi on 27th November, please could you tell me the better route to Kaza. Either via Manali or via Shimla. Will Rohtang Paas be safe to travel at that time. And at last, Bus timings for any of the above better route.

Vargis.Khan November 13, 2017 - 4:56 pm

Hello Anmol – You must plan from Shimla only. Rohtang Pass can close anytime now. Do not travel via Manali.

Anmol November 14, 2017 - 11:27 am

Thank you very much Sir.

Vargis.Khan November 15, 2017 - 1:33 pm

You are welcome

SB October 24, 2017 - 1:40 pm

Hi Mr.Khan,

Is it advisable to visit Spiti during December 2 week by public transport.?

Vargis.Khan October 24, 2017 - 3:18 pm

Hello Mr. SB – Yes you can make a trip to Spiti in December first week by public transport but it is definitely not the best time.

SB October 24, 2017 - 7:08 pm

Hi Khan

Thanks for the revert. Can you also let me know how much days should i estimate to spend in Spiti … Few more questions ….Where can I plan my accomodation – like is there any homestay kind of accommodation available, whether is it advisable to travel by hiring a bike etc ….

Vargis.Khan October 29, 2017 - 10:44 pm

From Shimla, keep at least 10 days to be on a safer side. A few guest houses remain open in winter as well so you will be able to find accommodation. Yes you can hire a bike but only if you have good experience in riding it around.

Manish Kumar Unni October 21, 2017 - 9:21 pm

Clear September 29, 2017 - 7:34 pm

Hello Vargis your guide is incredible. I plan to visit kaza from manali beginning from 2/10/17 and then back to manali by 7/10/17. Will the routes be open?

Also, will cellular network be available in kaza? What is atm or charging phones?

Thanks you : )

Vargis.Khan October 2, 2017 - 9:58 pm

Hello Clear – Yes the routes will be open. Only BSNL will get connectivity in Kaza. Yes, you can easily find an ATM in Kaza. Charge, do you mean charging the phone battery or topping up the balance?

Kunal Kumar September 15, 2017 - 5:30 pm

i want to visit Key Monastery from keylong on 29/9/2017 and want to return same day to keylong from Key Monastery, plz guide me about the hrtc bus timing and pick up and dropping point, thanks in advance………..

Vargis.Khan September 15, 2017 - 5:54 pm

Kye monastery is quite close to Kaza, about 10 odd kilometers. You do not need to wait for a bus. Just hitchhike or board a shared taxi going that way. Even if you start walking leisurely, it won’t take you long to get there. Lot of people travel to Key so hitch hiking too won’t be difficult.

Kunal Kumar September 16, 2017 - 5:21 am

will i able to return keylong from kaza on the same day(may be let night too) if i start our tour very early morning from keylong towards kaza by hrtc bus??? i have booked hotel in keylong at night on the same day…………..

Vargis.Khan September 17, 2017 - 1:39 am

No that is impossible. Keylong to Kaza alone is easily an 7-8 hours journey.

Kunal Kumar September 15, 2017 - 5:24 pm

I want to visit Key Monastery from Keylong and same day i want to return Keylong, plzz guide me about hrtc buses timing and pickup dropping point between keylong and Key Monastery for the same day returning……..thanks in advance………………

goodsearcherblog September 15, 2017 - 1:36 am

Please update the fare for Shimla to sangla bus service as it is around Rs.400 and not Rs.150.

Vargis.Khan September 15, 2017 - 3:51 pm

Thanks for correcting that bro

Vargis.Khan September 15, 2017 - 4:22 pm

Are you sure that fare is for Shimla to Sangla? Sounds a bit steep, just confirming. Appreciate your inputs bhai

Saurabh September 8, 2017 - 9:58 pm

We are doing Rupin pass trek and will finish the trek at Sangla. Do you recommend we go to Kaza from Peo or Manali? We are completing Rupin pass on 23rd October. So there is a chance of Rohtang Pass getting closed also.

Vargis.Khan September 9, 2017 - 8:42 pm

Rohtang Pass will mostly be open by 23rd but Kunzum Pass may not be so it will be better to head to Peo and return to Shimla.

Sweta Singh August 10, 2017 - 10:11 am

Hi vargis, super helpful insights for Spiti, do we get any bike on rent from Kaza?which place is best for camping in Kinnaur and Spitti valley?I

Vargis.Khan August 10, 2017 - 3:06 pm

Hello Sweta – Yes you can get a bike on rent in Kaza. For camping, Chandratal in Spiti and Chitkul around Kinnaur are the best spots for camping.

vishibansalyahoo August 8, 2017 - 9:10 am

Hello Sir,

I am planning a solo trip to Spiti with some road journey and some trekking in the next week. I plan to come via Shimla and exit via Manali and have thought of the following itinerary.
12th Aug – Shimla to Rekong Peo
13th Aug – Rekong Peo to Tabo
14th Aug- Tabo and around and reach Dhankar in the evening
15th Aug – Dhankar lake, stay at Dhankar
16th Aug – Dhankar to Lalung
17th Aug – Lalung to Demul / Koumik
18th Aug – Koumik to Langza via Hikkim
19th Aug – Langza to Kaza – day trip to Chicham
20th Aug –Kaza to Manali, and Manali to Delhi

Wanted your opinion on whether I will save time travelling to Kaza via Manali both sides – particularly since there have been flash floods due to cloud burst last week around Manali.

Thanks in advance,

Vargis.Khan August 8, 2017 - 1:59 pm

Hello Vishi, if you go from Manali, you can save a couple of days. I am guessing you are traveling by public transport? If yes, then it makes sense to go from Manali and come back the same route since you are covering mostly Spiti only, not Kinnaur or PIN valleys.

vishibansalyahoo August 8, 2017 - 3:39 pm

Hello Mr. Khan,

Thanks for your prompt reply, yes I will be travelling by public trapnsport. I tried doing the math as per your suggestion, I waste a day at Manali, since I cannot reach early enough to catch the bus to Kaza, and following the same itinerary backwards, I will be on Tabo on the 19th, and I cannot reach Kaza the same day to take the bus to Manali. May be I am wrong in calculation, but I guess reaching via Manali is not working primarily because of buses reaching late from Delhi. I will be able to take a bus only around 8:30 pm, and will reach late morning. Plus the time to travel back to Kaza… So I guess, if the road via Shimla is not too bad, I might stick to this plan. What do you think?

Warm regards,

Vargis.Khan August 8, 2017 - 5:02 pm

Hello Vish – You are right. You could have saved a day if you were catching the Manali to Kaza bus on 12th itself. If that is not possible then follow the itinerary you already have planned.

Roam Sweet Roam August 12, 2017 - 11:11 am

Hello Vishi,
I do hope that by now you have reached Reckong Peo safely. On your return please share details about the public transports used. I’ll be following the same itinerary in the first week of September. Regards

Aneesh Kumar July 30, 2017 - 7:11 am

Good information, Thanks. And at what time shimla to kaza bus reaches kaza. How much hours it will take???

Vargis.Khan August 1, 2017 - 5:22 pm

Shimla to Kaza is 2 days journey with a night halt at Reckong Peo. On Day 2, bus starts from Peo and reaches Kaza by late afternoon

Gaurav punj July 22, 2017 - 2:05 pm

Vargis.Khan July 23, 2017 - 11:12 pm

From Manali you will have to reach Kaza and then board the Kaza to Pin valley bus from there. Please take a look at the article below, should answer most of your questions.

jasleen July 18, 2017 - 5:39 am

I have a doubt, this is what written, so is it 6Am to 7 Am?

Kaza to Manali:

A Bus leaves Kaza for Manali every morning between 6 PM to 7 PM.

Vargis.Khan July 18, 2017 - 9:07 pm

Hello – Bus leaves in the morning. Thanks for catching that, that was a Typo error.

Shres July 10, 2017 - 11:52 am

Sir how long does it take from recongpeo to Chandigarh.. Also is it possible to come kinnaur kailash to recongpeo same day..

Vargis.Khan July 10, 2017 - 4:50 pm

Hello Shres Bhai, Reckong Peo to Chandigarh is one day journey. Kinner Kailash requires some serious trekking and climbing for 3-4 days

Siddharth July 8, 2017 - 1:22 pm

Hi sir could you tell me how much time it takes for the bus to reach Kaza from Reckong Peo?

Vargis.Khan July 8, 2017 - 11:27 pm

Siddharth Bhai it is a complete day journey. Bus starts early in the morning from Peo and reaches Kaza by evening.

Jerry antony July 4, 2017 - 10:32 am

Hai sir can I get busses too keylong or Leh from kaza is their anny buses available

Vargis.Khan July 5, 2017 - 4:19 pm

Yes, Yes you can board a bus from Kaza to Keylong and take the early morning bus to Leh from Keylong. In case you are not able to catch the Keylong bus from Kaza, take a shared cab or board the Manali bound bus, get down at Gramphoo and then either find a shared cab from there or you can hitchike to Keylong as well.

Very useful information.
We are planning a cycle ride from spiti valley to leh, khardhunglah on september 1st week.
our plan is to carry our cycles through bus from delhi to shimla then shimla to tabo.
which will be the easy way to transport.?
are they allow us to carry our cycles in bus?
need to know the bus timeings from shimla to tabo.
how much cost for shared taxi from shimla to tabo?
pls help us.
we are from kerala searched lot of sites for the bus timeings.
didnt get it.
is the plan is ok?
pls rply.

Vargis.Khan June 12, 2017 - 6:50 pm

Hello Arjun – I am sorry but I do not have a definite answer on whether or not they will allow cycles on the bus. These are ordinary road transport corporation government buses so in all probability, you should be able to put your cycles on the roof of the bus. There is no direct bus to Taboo, you will have to catch the one for Kaza that starts early from Shimla and then get down at Tabo next day. Once again, there is no direct shared taxi from Shimla to Kaza. You will have to change cabs at several places.

Bill June 10, 2017 - 5:30 am

Hey, do you know when the Manali-Kaza bus will start to run this month? I have limited time left in Himachal and will wait for it in Manali if it is soon. Thanks in advance.

Vargis.Khan June 12, 2017 - 6:47 pm

Hi Bill – This bus starts sometime around 15th June, but there could be a delay this year due to terrible conditions of the roads

Vishi Bansal June 8, 2017 - 6:36 pm

Hello, I want to travel to Kafnu (near Wangtu) from Shimla. I have seen there is one direct bus to Kafnu in the morning. But will the buses going to Reckong Peo also go via at least Rarang or wangtu, from where I can travel to Kafnu?

Vargis.Khan June 9, 2017 - 3:31 am

Hello Vishi – Yes the bus to Reckong will pass through Wangtu.

Kalyani June 5, 2017 - 6:18 am

Thank you for all the information. Is there a direct bus from Chandigarh to Spiti?

Vargis.Khan June 6, 2017 - 3:54 am

No direct bus from Chandigarh to Kaza. You will have to change at either Shimla or Reckong Peo.

Sanjay Jain June 3, 2017 - 6:03 pm

Hi friend,
Please tell me when the Manali to Kaza bus will start this year. I am planning to travel from Manali to Kaza this year by the 20th of June…..Will I get a bus this time ? Will the bus service start by then? There seems to be very little accurate information in this regard on the web. Please help !

Vargis.Khan June 4, 2017 - 1:38 am

Sanjay Bhai it starts on 15th June each year.

Jash June 8, 2017 - 11:27 am

How much in advance should the booking for Manali to Kaza bus be made? And how to make it? I am planning to go there in Mid August. Also. Is it safe to have a Flight from Delhi the next evening of returning from Spiti?

Vargis.Khan June 8, 2017 - 3:29 pm

There is no advance booking system available. These are all ordinary buses that you will have to board from the bus stand and purchase a ticket from the conductor. Flight from Delhi is quite safe.

Jash June 10, 2017 - 7:14 am

Are there seats generally available on bus? And what if i miss Kaza-Manali bus and have to reach Delhi next noon by hook or crook?

Vargis.Khan June 12, 2017 - 6:58 pm

Cannot really comment on the availability of the seats, depends on the rush. It is like the same way you will board a city bus, may or may not get a seat. If you are boarding from Kaza, reach early in the morning and you should be able to secure yourself a seat. If you miss the bus, the only other option is in the form of shared taxis.

Anand Khandelwal June 3, 2017 - 4:55 am

Is there any bus from Simla to Reckongpeo peo in the morning ? Also , how is it to travel by buses in this sort of road conditions ?

Vargis.Khan June 3, 2017 - 4:20 pm

You can take the same morning bus towards Kaza to reach Reckong Peo. Another direct bus to Reckong Peo starts from Shimla ISBT at 6.30 PM.

Well these are ordinary buses traveling on badly broken roads so you can imagine the journey

D May 30, 2017 - 1:19 pm

Is Shimla to Kaza direct bus covers Nako .. Tabo…Dhankar etc.?

Vargis.Khan May 30, 2017 - 5:07 pm

Yes it does

D May 30, 2017 - 1:11 pm

How much cost the tickets Shimla to Kaza direct bus ?… and Manali to Kaza bus ?

Vargis.Khan May 30, 2017 - 5:29 pm

Shimla to Kaza bus fare is around Rs. 300 per person and Manali to Kaza bus fare is around Rs. 200 per person

Sreetama Ghosh May 29, 2017 - 9:31 am

This is very helpful. Thanks a lot. Could you tell me that if there is any way to reach all the way to Tabo from Manali in a single day? I am planning to take the bus from Manali to reach Kaza and go ahead to Tabo.

Vargis.Khan May 30, 2017 - 12:41 am

Will be hard to find a bus. The only way around this is to catch the Manali to Kaza bus and then find a shared cab going towards Tabo. But it all depends on what time you arrive at Kaza. If it is by evening, you may not even find a shared cab.

Lo May 15, 2017 - 4:36 pm

Thanks for the breakdown! I am a foreigner planning to visit Kaza from Delhi in May, I’d like to know how I can purchase the bus ticket for the public bus services heading to Kaza?

Vargis.Khan May 17, 2017 - 8:38 pm

You are welcome. There is no direct Delhi to Kaza Bus. Best choice that you have is to reach ISBT Delhi, catch a bus to Shimla from there and board another bus from Shimla Bus stand for Kaza.

Bus tickets are available on the spot. Just board the bus and the conductor will collect the money from you, handing over the ticket.

Sana Lajporiya May 8, 2017 - 12:44 pm

This is super helpful for first time travelers like myself. Thanks a lot for this!

Vargis.Khan May 9, 2017 - 3:53 am
