Ladakh happens to be the second-largest district of India after Kutch in Gujarat. The list of places to visit is long, and squeezing it in a limited number of days can be a bit tricky indeed. To make it a bit easier for understanding, I will suggest a few examples of Ladakh itinerary by flight, explaining the manner you can move around and places you should cover.

Even if you are not able to follow any of these itineraries to the last detail, it will at least give you an idea of how to draft your own final travel plan. Depending on your preference and the time in hand, you can add or remove the days or places from the itinerary and form one that suits you the best.

How to Plan a Leh Ladakh Itinerary by Flight

There is really no one way to go about it. There are two major contributing factors that your final travel plan will depend on. The first one is your mode of commute, and the second one being the number of days you have in hand.

Once you arrive in Leh city, you can either rent a private taxi or motorcycle or move around using public transport. If you were using a taxi or a bike, you will be able to move freely and cover more places.

Public transport however will restrict your movement highly because there are no buses or shared cabs available on direct routes between Nubra, Pangong, or Moriri. So some of the areas like Shyok road and Changthang Valley (Chushul route) would have to be kept out, and you will have to keep coming back to Leh to get a bus for the next area on your list.

Keeping both of the above factors in mind, let me share a few itinerary examples. I will first begin with a trip lasting 2 weeks, then will work my way down reducing the number of days.

How Safe is Ladakh?

Rollback about a decade ago and a trip to Ladakh was considered best by road while covering both Manali Leh and Srinagar Leh highways. To be honest, back then, it was not Ladakh that excited people about the journey. Rather it was the challenging nature of Manali to Leh road that everyone wanted to take on.

But gone are those days really when Ladakh was a place for only the adventurous kind or motorcycle enthusiasts. After the recent boost in tourism, everyone wants to go to Ladakh now. You will also find families vacationing here with elders and children. I have even had couples asking me if they could go for their honeymoon to Ladakh.

So if you were wondering whether or not Ladakh is safe for a family trip then the answer is a yes. That still does not excuse you from meticulous planning though. Ladakh still is a high-altitude desert and there are things you must prepare yourself for.
