Limitless Series Review – Refreshing, Funny and Engrossing

by Vargis.Khan

Ever wondered what it would be like if Sherlock Holmes grew a sense of humor and joined FBI? Watch the Limitless Series and you will know the answer. I just binge watched the entire series and must admit that I totally loved it. I agree that it had its own flaws, plot holes; and instances where you would roll up your eyes at what was happening; but despite all that, it is a show that will keep you engrossed and interested for its entire length of 22 episodes. If you were planning to watch something this weekend and thinking about what to pick then I will highly recommend Limitless. Give it a try; I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

Limitless was in fact a movie that they made back in 2011. It starred Bradley Cooper as Eddie Morra, a struggling writer who stumbles upon a mysterious pill that enables the user to access one hundred percent of his brain abilities. The series carries-on on the same lines and in fact even has the character of Eddie Morra as the villain. Our hero in the series is an all out loser who gets the chance of a lifetime to redeem himself by working for the FBI as a super-smart cop that he becomes after taking the pill.

Limitless Series

Is the show perfect? Absolutely not. But then come on, we are talking about a pill here that converts a completely dumb person into Sherlock Holmes in a matter of seconds. You already know what you are getting into before you even start to watch the series. So just relax and enjoy it for what it is, a fun to watch and full of Joy series. It’s light, it’s funny, it’s well-cast and it doesn’t need to go in a darker, more intricate direction. The pace of the show is well placed and it keeps you smiling and guessing till the end.

It is similar to a cop show, but it is unique because it is not about a cop. It is about a guy effectively functioning as a human Guinea pig for cops. It’s a different perspective about how his job, and the drug, affect his life. It’s refreshing really. I did not really understand all the hate against this show but then I guess everyone has their own opinion. To me this show manages to make interesting characters and plots, without losing the main idea of the show.

Characters

I read somewhere that the protagonist was an irritating character but that is so wrong. The lead of show played by Jake McDorman is actually the best part about it. The protagonist has a way of looking at things and portraying them to the audience that gives us some comedy relief that the movie didn’t really have. The comedy is the strongest part about it all. You have seen the murder mysteries, Sherlock Holmes and crime thrillers multiple times; but how many of them successfully were able to add a pinch of comedy to it without making things annoying?

Now coming to the acting part, Jake McDorman is pleasant enough to watch as an everyday Joe stumbling upon unique gifts. Jennifer Carpenter has an interesting face though she is highly improbable as a romantic interest. Bradley Cooper has has very limited screen time but is a refreshing addition.

Final Verdict

In the end, I will strongly recommend watching Limitless series. The show takes the idea of the story from the movie but is not in continuation and doesn’t depend upon it. So even if you haven’t seen the movie, you are still OK.

The only part that I did not like is the way it ended. The ending looked abrupt and did not make any sense; leaving too many lose ends. But I guess that was because the makers wanted to keep the options open for Season 2 which unfortunately never came. The show has just 1 season and that is it. I do wish though that they will continue making it in near future. But for now, sit back, relax and enjoy the 22 Episodes of crime investigations in an energetic, funny and innovative way.
