Mowgli Netflix Review – Unimpressive and Ridiculous

by Vargis.Khan

Let me begin this article by admitting that I actually waited for this movie since I first heard of it. In fact this was the first Netflix movie ever that I actually waited for. Mowgli happens to be one of my favorite tales since I was a kid and boy did this movie ruined it for me. I was excited when I started to watch this garbage, and annoyed by the time it ended. If you have even slightest of love for a good motion picture and do not want to waste two hours of your life then please avoid Mowgli like a plague. A better option would be to watch The Jungle Book that they released back in 2016; but the Netflix version is an unnecessary and much darker remake of a story that is considered as a children’s tale.

Mowgli Netflix Review

This movie was actually so bad that I am finding it hard to decide which part I hated the most; and should begin with. Let me first start with the cast. I know he is just a kid; but that boy they picked to play the part of Mowgli was just annoying. Even if you leave out the acting part, the fact is that he did not suit the role at all; and I wonder who picked him and why. That is not a face that I imagined for Mowgli; and I found it hard to even watch that kid after a while.

The plot in this movie became so ridiculous and inconsistent with its own logic, struggling to give us a poor message that totally ruins the flow of the movie. It portrays Mowgli as someone who is capable of murder. Yes that is correct. In one of the scenes, he actually walks into a hut holding a knife with an intention of killing another human being.

Bad Story, Bad Acting, Annoying Characters and Too Negative

I wonder why it is difficult to stick to the source material, which paints a beautiful picture and image of Mowgli and the jungle, and how he is torn in between the two worlds. Rather, we are shown gory images of dead animals, mutilated cows and Elephants walking over people. There is one cute Albino puppy who is the best friend of Mowgli and then he finds his head on a table. Why to ruin beloved childhood story with unpleasant animal images and disturbing scenes? The entire movie focused on negative emotions than positive emotions nor there was any entertainment.

Now let us talk about CGI. It was horrible. The animals designs are awful making them look bad and ugly. It is really bad animation all the way. There is no logic in it as well. We are talking about a Jungle in India. They decided to pick a child to play the part who looks as Indian as a child can do. But then he has a British accent? Also, all of the jungle animals have British and Scottish accents. Really? Wouldn’t making all of them have Indian accents make a lot more sense if you wanted to make it look so Indian? Or else just forget about the Indian part and focus on the Jungle like it has been done in the previous versions.

Final Verdict

My final verdict is that if you have some memories from Disney’s Jungle Book then be warned, this is not it. This movie will ruin the Mowgli tale for you and leave you completely annoyed and angry. Stick to The 2016 Jungle book instead. I really wish I could go back in time and undo watching this movie. This is how bad it actually is.
