Srinagar Leh highway is also known as NH 1D. It is actually part of NH1 connecting Kashmir Valley to Leh. The road begins from Uri in Jammu Kashmir and ends in Leh.
The total length of the road is 534 kilometers out of which the 434 kilometers stretch from Srinagar to Leh is famed. There are three high-altitude passes on the way.
Fotu La is the highest point on the Srinagar Leh highway, at a height of 4,108 m (13,478 ft). Famed Zoji La is the second highest pass on the route, at a height of 3,528 m (11,575 ft).
The road is declared open sometime in April or early May and closed by Mid November after snowfall at Zoji La.
Srinagar to Leh Distance
The total distance between Srinagar and Leh via Kargil is about 420 kilometers. If you traveled via Batalik, this distance would increase to about 435 kilometers. It is a total of 2 days’ journey with a night halt at either Kargil or Batalik.
