Bought a Nikon AF-S DX Micro 40mm Prime Lens

Macro photography has always fascinated me. Looking at those close up photos of flowers, small insects; and other things always made me want to click some myself. Unfortunately however, I have so far never owned a Macro lens. My photography kit only consisted of a DSLR, the normal lens that came with the DSLR; and a Telephoto 70-300. Recently however, I decided to try my hand at Macro photography and bought a Nikon AF-S DX Micro 40mm F/2.8G Prime Lens.

I have been using a Nikon D7000 for last few years. For last few months I was considering to buy a new camera; and then finally bought a Nikon D7200 last weekend. While I was browsing the web deciding which camera to buy next, another purchase that I was considering was of a Macro lens. To be honest I was quite surprised how expensive these lenses were; for a minute it made me wonder whether I actually wanted to buy a Macro.

Finally after my mind was made up, I then settled on this Nikon 40mm lens; mainly because it fitted into my budget and I also read great reviews about it. It actually was among the cheapest ones available. Since I bought it from the same dealer that I got my 7200 from, I was able to save a couple thousands more.

So far I have not had a chance to use the lens. I bought it on Sunday evening and then was back at work on Monday so did not get much time to test drive the lens yet. Plan is to visit a few monuments site in New Delhi like Humayun’s tomb or Lodi Garden. There is plenty of flowers and vegetation there. So that should give me ample of opportunity to click some close up photos. It has been raining in New Delhi for last few days; so that is also a good thing because it means there will be plenty of flowers around and a few insects out of the ground as well, LOL. I will post some pictures and a review of the lens after I have click some photos this weekend.

You need go out to test your new prime lens. You can do it at home itself. You must aim for a great Bokeh effect

That is a great thought Dr. Mehdi. I did not really think of Bokeh, was only focused on testing it in a garden. Thank you for this suggestion.
