Alpather Lake Photos – Hidden Gem of Kashmir

by Vargis.Khan

These are some Alpather Lake photos that I clicked while recently traveling to Kashmir. I knew little about this beautiful hidden gem of Kashmir before reaching Gulmarg. In fact, It was not even part of my itinerary. The plan of visiting here was a last moment decision.

But when I reached this lake, I immediately realized what I would have missed if I did not come here. We spent some time clicking pictures. As we were leaving, I already knew that I must visit here again to see the frozen version of the lake in winter.

Alpather Lake Photos

For a brief introduction, Alpather lake is a picturesque small lake near Gulmarg. It is at the foot of the twin Apharwat Peaks, at a height of 4,390 meters. Also known as “Frozen Lake” by the locals, it is one of the major tourist attractions in the small town of Gulmarg.

Surrounded by rocky mountains and lush green meadows that are covered with beautiful wildflowers, this lake is beyond any doubt a sight to behold.

It is not just the lake, to be honest, but the entire journey that you will take to finally get here, that is an experience in itself.

When you finally get to stand on the banks of a stunningly beautiful lake in the middle of nowhere, at the top of the highest peak around, you know that you are going to be talking about this trip for days to come.

While I was busy clicking the pictures of the lake, a friend of mine clicked a couple of my photos sitting between the lambs.

The camera I used was Nikon D7200 which I had actually recently bought before the trip. So this trip was also a test run as well for my camera. Overall I was quite happy with the quality of the images and the camera’s performance.

Conclusion

Dear Mr. Vargis, 2 years ago your blog was a splendid introduction for my husband and I to the beauties of Ladakh. Last year we topped it up with zanskar.
At present we are traveling in Malaysia, but God knows how much I am missing the mountains and the stunning scenery of the Himalayas.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful pics
