A road trip to Ladakh is best advised by your own vehicle. But that is not always a choice for everyone. The next best thing to do then is to catch a flight to Ladakh and rent a taxi there for local sightseeing. If you too were planning on doing the same then mentioned below are the Ladakh taxi rates in 2023 which can help you determine the overall cost and plan your trip budget.
For all other details on visiting Ladakh, like how to reach, where to stay, what to see, itinerary planning, etc, please take a look at How to Plan a Trip to Ladakh – A Complete Travel Guide. You can also contact me on Instagram to get answers to any questions you may have.
Should you book a taxi in advance? I would say that yes you should. Last year, during peak tourist season, people found it hard to find a taxi because everyone they called was booked already. I would highly recommend that you book a cab ahead of your visit.
For booking a taxi in Ladakh, please contact Kunal @ 9910402252. Give my reference and you will surely get discounted and the best available rates. Mentioned below are some of the most common tourist rates that he can get you at a discounted rate.

October is a little late for traveling by Bus. You should plan before September 15th.
Hello want visit kargil around 7 Oct, from leh ,what all places I can see at this time and should I take a taxi from leh to kargil n for all sight seeing and again back to leh how many days r good enough .and please tell me the pri e .
We two friends are planning to have a tour of leh ladakh in September 2020 in 2nd week.We want to visit all tourist places in and around leh including Pangong, Tsumorari lake ,Nubra valley etc .Pl let me know how many days are needed and total expenses.I want to have road trip from Srinagar to leh, and return journey by road from leh to Delhi by AC bolero.
After reading some more, it seems October is the time matching my requirement, when the ice is just perfect for visiting??
But the problem again will be of the Manali Leh Bus service. HPTDC Bus shuts down by September 15th followed by HRTC Bus in early days of October. It all depends on the weather really.
Agreed. The only benefit is that flight cost from Delhi to Leh is cheap at that time?
Would you kindly provide me an estimated budget (travel, hotel, food) for the following trip in October 2019:
Tour Highlights :
Leh Market – Leh Palace – Shanti Stupa – Shey – Thikse – Hemis Monastery – Hall of Fame – Spituk Monastery – Pathar Sahib Gurudwara – Magnetic Hill – Sangam – confluence of Zanskar and Indus River – Pangong Tso Lake – Changla Pass – World Highest pass called Khardungla – Nubra Valley – Diskit Monastery – Hundar Sand Dune – Hot Spring at Panamic – Samastalingka Monastery – Chumathang Hot Spring – Tso Moriri Lake – Tso Kar Salt Lake – Wild Ass viewing – Tahing lang La pass world third highest pass.

Dear Mr. Khan,
Such a detailed information is very much appreciated.May you please suggest a plan and budget for me?
Time:Apr/May 2020, when there is still snowfall available
We will start from Delhi via Manali to Leh in a Bus.
I wish to visit Leh,Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, Tsomoriri and anything worth seeing in these lines.
I will skip Kargil,Zojila,Srinagar side.
Hello Mr. Arunendra,
You must delay your plan until June. The Manali to Leh bus service starts only after June 10th.
Ok.Thanx.Is still snowfall/ice on road available after June 10th?
And if you would kindly guide me with an itinerary according to my route.
I will be with my wife but on a strict budget.
There could be some snow left at the top of the passes like Rohtang and Baralacha La. How many days do you have for the trip?
7 days from New Delhi to Leh tour and return to New Delhi.
I guess I have to read more.Actually, we were hoping to see snowclad roads also, even if it is between winter and summer. But it seems from your earlier comment that bus route from Manali to Leh will not be available then?
Correct. The Manali Leh route opens usually by late May or early June and then the bus service starts by Mid June. You will find some snow on the road but only at the top of Rohtang Pass and Baralacha La.
is there any taxi available from Tsoureri to leh by what time and what will be the charges
Nothing scheduled. You will look to look for one while you are there.
VERY NICE,THANK YOU.
You are welcome !!!
Hey vargis. We r planning to visit manali leh ladakh in july first week from lucknow. We r coming by our personal vehicle. Is dat allowed for sight seeing dere? Also kindly tell which one will be cheap ..hiring a taxi or by our own vehicle.
Your own vehicle will be cheaper Shilpika. Yes, it is allowed as long as the person the car is registered to is traveling with you.
Hello vargis bhai…. kindly suggest us location of hotel in leh city from where we can get taxi easily for nubra and pangong…..
We are planning a road trip from Srinagar-Leh-Nubra-Pangong-Srinagar in July/August. We usually take a self-drive vehicle but I’m not sure of the Srinagar-Leh highway. What would the road be like if we self-drive or is it better to take a driver?
Spoke to a couple of people for car cost from Srinagar for a 10 day trip. The prices are varying a lot and I don’t understand the differences. 1 person said 70k, another said 60k and third is saying 46k. All of them include driver allowances, tolls, taxes, fuel and parking for the entire itinerary. I don’t know how they are including Ladakh as well since outside rented taxis aren’t allowed for Ladakh. What should I ask them or keep in mind which will help me book the car I want and not face problems later. I want the car at my disposal so I can stop along the way for sightsee, tourist places or food.
Hello Mr.Khan, it is really exhaustive and important information you are sharing with us.

I am planning a trip in Oct 3rd week for 6 days .
Need to know how to hire a Driver / Taxi before reaching .
Is there a Taxi Union Driver & contact List available for that ?
After waiting for long for a group for a trip in Oct 20-26 and getting no response, we decided not to visit Ladakh.
Now that you have a similar plan, may I contact you personally outside this forum? Please contact me at [email protected].
Hi Jayanta – You can contact Nasir in Leh @ 9906229203.
Hi, Mr Vargis Khan. Good morning. I find your blog very informative and useful. We are 9/10 heads will be going to ladakh in end August/September ’19 for 12nights, 13 days tour starting from Srinagar airport to Manali through Kargil-Lamayuru-leh-Turtuk-Hundar-pangong-Hanle-Tsomoriri-Keylong-Manali. Can you please suggest what type of transpor we could avail? An what can be the approximate total cost?
Hi Vargis, I am planning a solo bike trip from Leh to Khardung La and Sha, Valley in 2nd week of April 2019. I only have 4 days and people I have spoken to so far told me Khradung La on bike is not possible in April. I will love to have your feedback if it is doable and if I can have a local rider buddy I can take with me taking care of all costs? Regards
It is doable Sanjeev but entirely depends on how well can you handle the bike. There is a lot of snow on the road towards the top of the pass so it will be a very challenging task. I know people who have done it but it won’t be an easy thing to do.
We r planning to ride in july in ladakh from Chandigarh.. 14 riders are in group..
We r looking for backup vehicle from Chandigarh Srinagar leh pangong nubra manali for whole circuit… i read that tourist vehicles registered outside leh is not allowed in pangong and nubra valley…
What you suggest to overcome this issue.. thanks in advance..
Vehicles rented outside Ladakh aren’t allowed. There is no solution to it Dhananjay
How to prebook the taxi? Is there any contact available or online site? As we are from south India, we don’t know Hindi and also want to prebook in order to avoid last minute mess up. We need to book from April 13 to April 21. We have following itinerary and is it fine
April 13 – pick up Airport to Hotel
April 14 – Leh Local sightSeeing
April 15 – Leh to Diskit
April 16 – Diskit to Turtuk and back Panamik
April 17 – Leh
April 18 & 19 & 20 – Pangong – Chushul – Tso Moriri – Leh
April 21 – drop at Airport
What is the expected cost for the taxi? Also provide some good hotels in Leh, Diskit, Panamik, Pangong, Tsomoriri
Thanks in advance
Talk to Nasir in Leh at 9906229203. He run his own taxi there and you can book him. He can also advise about the hotels there at all other places.
Is the above itinerary fine during April 13 – 21? If not please suggest one
