A road trip to Ladakh is best advised by your own vehicle. But that is not always a choice for everyone. The next best thing to do then is to catch a flight to Ladakh and rent a taxi there for local sightseeing. If you too were planning on doing the same then mentioned below are the Ladakh taxi rates in 2023 which can help you determine the overall cost and plan your trip budget.
For all other details on visiting Ladakh, like how to reach, where to stay, what to see, itinerary planning, etc, please take a look at How to Plan a Trip to Ladakh – A Complete Travel Guide. You can also contact me on Instagram to get answers to any questions you may have.
Should you book a taxi in advance? I would say that yes you should. Last year, during peak tourist season, people found it hard to find a taxi because everyone they called was booked already. I would highly recommend that you book a cab ahead of your visit.

Leh Airport Taxi Rates
For the sake of explaining this better, I will break the information down into different regions of Ladakh. I will begin with your arrival in Leh city. If you want to book a cab to pick you up from the airport and drop you at the hotel, then below is how much it is going to cost you.
Leh Airport to City Taxi Fare
Depending on how far your hotel is, a taxi from Leh airport to Leh city will cost you between Rs. 550 to Rs. 1,500. As you can see in the chart above, the charges for A and B Class taxis are exactly the same.
There is a small difference in the rates of C Class cabs but it is not too significant. Choglamsar Bridge is about 9 kilometers from the airport and Stok Palace is about 15 kilometers.

Next, let us talk about the fare that you will be paying if you rent a cab for sightseeing in and around Leh City.
Leh to Khardung La Taxi Fare

Venturing further into Chumathang Valley; a private taxi to Hanle will cost about Rs. 17,000 round trip. If you want to complete the Pangong – Chushul – Tso Moriri – Leh circuit then a three-day trip on this route will cost you about Rs. 24,000.

After reading some more, it seems October is the time matching my requirement, when the ice is just perfect for visiting??
But the problem again will be of the Manali Leh Bus service. HPTDC Bus shuts down by September 15th followed by HRTC Bus in early days of October. It all depends on the weather really.
Agreed. The only benefit is that flight cost from Delhi to Leh is cheap at that time?
Would you kindly provide me an estimated budget (travel, hotel, food) for the following trip in October 2019:
Tour Highlights :
Leh Market – Leh Palace – Shanti Stupa – Shey – Thikse – Hemis Monastery – Hall of Fame – Spituk Monastery – Pathar Sahib Gurudwara – Magnetic Hill – Sangam – confluence of Zanskar and Indus River – Pangong Tso Lake – Changla Pass – World Highest pass called Khardungla – Nubra Valley – Diskit Monastery – Hundar Sand Dune – Hot Spring at Panamic – Samastalingka Monastery – Chumathang Hot Spring – Tso Moriri Lake – Tso Kar Salt Lake – Wild Ass viewing – Tahing lang La pass world third highest pass.
As compared to peak tourist season, yes.
Dear Mr. Khan,
Such a detailed information is very much appreciated.May you please suggest a plan and budget for me?
Persons-2
Time:Apr/May 2020, when there is still snowfall available
We will start from Delhi via Manali to Leh in a Bus.
I wish to visit Leh,Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, Tsomoriri and anything worth seeing in these lines.
I will skip Kargil,Zojila,Srinagar side.
Hello Mr. Arunendra,
You must delay your plan until June. The Manali to Leh bus service starts only after June 10th.
Ok.Thanx.Is still snowfall/ice on road available after June 10th?
And if you would kindly guide me with an itinerary according to my route.
I will be with my wife but on a strict budget.
There could be some snow left at the top of the passes like Rohtang and Baralacha La. How many days do you have for the trip?
7 days from New Delhi to Leh tour and return to New Delhi.
I guess I have to read more.Actually, we were hoping to see snowclad roads also, even if it is between winter and summer. But it seems from your earlier comment that bus route from Manali to Leh will not be available then?
Correct. The Manali Leh route opens usually by late May or early June and then the bus service starts by Mid June. You will find some snow on the road but only at the top of Rohtang Pass and Baralacha La.
is there any taxi available from Tsoureri to leh by what time and what will be the charges
Nothing scheduled. You will look to look for one while you are there.
VERY NICE,THANK YOU.
You are welcome !!!
Hey vargis. We r planning to visit manali leh ladakh in july first week from lucknow. We r coming by our personal vehicle. Is dat allowed for sight seeing dere? Also kindly tell which one will be cheap ..hiring a taxi or by our own vehicle.
Your own vehicle will be cheaper Shilpika. Yes, it is allowed as long as the person the car is registered to is traveling with you.
Hello vargis bhai…. kindly suggest us location of hotel in leh city from where we can get taxi easily for nubra and pangong…..
Hi Vargis,
We are planning a road trip from Srinagar-Leh-Nubra-Pangong-Srinagar in July/August. We usually take a self-drive vehicle but I’m not sure of the Srinagar-Leh highway. What would the road be like if we self-drive or is it better to take a driver?
Spoke to a couple of people for car cost from Srinagar for a 10 day trip. The prices are varying a lot and I don’t understand the differences. 1 person said 70k, another said 60k and third is saying 46k. All of them include driver allowances, tolls, taxes, fuel and parking for the entire itinerary. I don’t know how they are including Ladakh as well since outside rented taxis aren’t allowed for Ladakh. What should I ask them or keep in mind which will help me book the car I want and not face problems later. I want the car at my disposal so I can stop along the way for sightsee, tourist places or food.
Thanks!

Hi Vargis, I am planning a solo bike trip from Leh to Khardung La and Sha, Valley in 2nd week of April 2019. I only have 4 days and people I have spoken to so far told me Khradung La on bike is not possible in April. I will love to have your feedback if it is doable and if I can have a local rider buddy I can take with me taking care of all costs? Regards
It is doable Sanjeev but entirely depends on how well can you handle the bike. There is a lot of snow on the road towards the top of the pass so it will be a very challenging task. I know people who have done it but it won’t be an easy thing to do.
