This year so far has seen me changing several phones with a few months still to go. I started the year with a Vivo, then changed to HTC Desire 728 in March. A few months later I lost the HTC phone and bought a Motorola on suggestion of a friend. Moto turned out to be highly disappointing so I got rid of it within a few weeks. The next phone I bought was Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime Gold. It has been a couple of months since I am using Samsung and I must admit, I am quite happy with how the phone turned out to be; in terms of both handling and performance. Below is my brief Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime review, pointing out a few things that I liked and disliked about the phone.

For last few years, all my phones have been HTC because I really liked the brand. Then I bought a Vivo which turned out to be just an OK phone and I switched back to HTC once again. When I lost my desire 728, a friend highly suggested Motorola but it turned out to be one of the worst phones I ever used. I was once again considering to switch back to HTC but then heard and read great reviews about Galaxy J7. The only apprehension I had against Samsung was that it was way too common. Almost every other person in India has a Samsung Smartphone. However, after a lot of thinking, I decided to ignore my apprehension and try Samsung. As it turned out, it was a good decision.
Samsung Galaxy j7 Prime Review
On the specifications side, Samsung Galaxy J7 comes with a 5.7 inches (1920 x 1080 pixels) full HD display; powered by a 1.6 GHz octa-core processor and 4 GB RAM. It has an internal memory of 32 GB and can be expanded up to 256 GB. The primary is 13 MP and the secondary camera is 8MP. Battery capacity is 3300 mAh. The phone also sports bio-metric sensors like fingerprints and face recognition that can be used to unlock it.
Design & Build
The phone is available in two colors, black and gold. In terms of looks, it is a decent looking phone. I found the gold color to be a little better than the black one which I think looked a bit common. Build quality is decent enough but needs to be handled with care. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has a metal body and curved edges which makes it look good but at the same time, also prone to smudges nad easy slips from hand. The home button on the front integrates the fingerprint sensor. Odd thing that I found was that the headset jack is at the bottom; contrary to the customary top spot.
Display
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime comes with a 5.7 inch Full HD display which makes it a bit broader than most of the phones in the market featuring a 5.5 inch display. Viewing angles, color reproduction, Sunlight visibility and contrast is pretty good.
Performance
The overall performance of the phone is quite impressive. My use is mostly limited long duration calls, messaging, browsing and playing light games like Pool or Candy Crush. I have never so far experienced any lag, stutter or heating problem at all. Even while running multiple applications, the phone continues to work smoothly. I tend to go on long calls, plug in my headset and keep playing games while talking to the other person. Even during this, the phone did not show any signs of stress at all.
Battery
This probably is my biggest complaint with this phone. It features a 3300 mAh which can last an entire day without charging but if you are a frequent game player, specially a game that uses internet connection, than the battery tends to burn out quite fast. Apart from this, it has enough juice for calls and messaging an entire day. The phone also has a power planning feature which can help to further increase battery life.
Camera
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime sports a 13MP rear camera with auto focus and LED flash and an 8MP front camera. Now I am more of an amateur photographer who owns several DSLR. Still I was quite satisfied with the image quality of the phone. There was very low noise in the pictures and color reproduction was quite accurate. Images taken in low light conditions were not really that great but decent enough. The front camera produces good selfies. This phone also offers a full HD video recording which is just about OK.
Sound
This probably is my biggest complain with this phone. While the sound quality was quite good, the ear phones provided with the phone weren’t that great. I am a regular music listener and it was a big set back for me. I now use my Sony earphones and quite happy with the sound output.
Connectivity
This phone only takes nano sim cards and is 4G supported.
Final Verdict
At a price of about Rs. 18,000, I would admit that this phone is well worth the money. It is a good looking branded phone that performs very well. I would definitely recommend buying this phone to anyone. If you own a Samsung Galaxy J7 prime, I would love to hear your views about it. Please feel free to share in the comments section below.
