boAt Nirvanaa Uno In-Ear Earphones Review

I am not really sure why but when it came to music, I was always a die-hard fan of Sony. As far as I remember, all my music products were Sony; be it the music system, CD / DVD player, Walkman, earphones, headset or MP3 players. Any other brand just won’t do it for me. It is not that I did not try some other company because I did; but never was really satisfied and always switched back to Sony. Recently however, on a friend’s advice, I purchased a boAt Nirvanaa Uno In-Ear Earphones. After using the product for a while, below is a short review of how I found the product, and whether or not I will recommend it to a friend.

To summarize my entire experience in one line, It is probably the first time that I liked a non-Sony product. The overall sound quality and music experience was quite good; and considering the price you will pay for these earphones, you really cannot get any better than this. It kills me to admit but even the Sony products in this range aren’t as good. Read on for further details.

This earphone was originally priced at Rs. 1,990 but is not available for Rs. 799 at Amazon which is where I bought it from. Let me post a few pictures of the package that was delivered to me by Amazon.

To be honest,  I have really never seen an earphone in such neat packaging as this one was. The entire box and the way the folded and packed the earphones inside was very stylish. The moment you unpack it, it will give you the feeling that you have bought something classy.  It also comes with a box that you can put your earphones in.

Now this is really useful. You can just put the earphones in it when you are not using them and it prevents any possible damage to them.

Packaging

You will receive one big cardboard box and inside, there will be the earphones, a storage box, ear plug caps and a warranty card.

Looks

This is definitely a very stylish earphone. The combination of red and black looks really good and overall, it is a mix of style and performance. The entire thing looks very premium.

Cable

I found the cable to be strong as compared to some other products I have used. It’s quality is pretty neat and with some unique textures to it, it adds to the overall classy look of the earphone. Another great benefit I found with this cable is that it is tangle free.

Mic

With most of the earphones, I have noticed that the mic is usually on the cable that goes in to left ear. However with this one, mic is on the right hand side. The placement is good and it is quite close to the mouth so you do not really have to lift it up and speak. Mic quality is good and I use it while I go for cycling early in the morning. If I am talking to someone while cycling, the other person can hear me crystal clear with not much of background noise; including both the traffic and wind.

It is a multi functional mic. Click once for calls, twice for next track while listening to music and triple click for previous track.

Earplugs

The earbud for this one are a bit different and come with ear support that can be adjusted as needed. This is where it got a bit tricky for me. I was a bit confused about how to put it on and did it like you would for any other earphone; which caused it to continue falling off. I was on the verge of returning it when I realized that the cable after you plug it in your ear goes over the ear before coming down, as shown in the pic below. After I did that, it fit in perfectly. The design overall is a comfort fit with easy adjustment choice.

Sound Quality

Now in the end, coming to the most important aspect of all; the sound quality. Output of this earphone I must admit is very good with rich bass, well balance and produces clear sound. Bass for some people may feel a bit on the lower side; but it can be fixed with a good equalizer. Once you tune it, it can give a nasty punch of bass.

Final Verdict

I have this earphone plugged in to my ears for about two and a half hours daily. One hour of cycling and then another hour and a half of working out in the gym and it doesn’t come or fall off even once. The over the ear support thing really works and you will not have to worry about the plug coming out of your ear. Sound quality if not out of the world is still very good. All I hear in the gym is music and none of the other noises. As a matter of fact, there is a music system in the gym as well but with these earphones, all I hear is the song I am playing on my phone, nothing else.

A bit to add on the experience with Amazon as well; I order the earphones on a Sunday and received on Monday itself even though I am not a Prime customer. Price for these earphones at other sites is still listed at Rs. 900 above and even Rs. 1200 or above. Amazon was offering it for the least price, Rs. 799 which I paid.
