Sound and light show in Srinagar is something that not many tourists know of. It is a beautiful event organized every evening on the banks of Dal Lake and by far is one of the best such programs that I have ever attended.
If you are going to visit Kashmir anytime soon and had a day planned in Srinagar, I will highly recommend attending this show in the evening. It starts at around 8 pm, lasts for about 30 minutes, and is a perfect way to spend an evening on Dal Lake.
You can first go for a Shikara ride in the evening and then reach the open-theater-like area where this show is organized. There are a few small restaurants there as well where you can get something to eat.

Sound and Light Show in Srinagar
The sound and light show in Srinagar is like any other such show anywhere else, to be honest. There are a bit of fancy colorful lights mixed with good music and that is pretty much it.
The only thing that can make such an event different than others is the venue and presentation. That is where Srinagar takes the prize.
The event is held on Dal Lake. I mean literally on the lake, not on its banks. The sound and light show here is actually mixed with a third component, the water. So it actually becomes a fountain, sound, and light show.
Unfortunately, I did not click too many pictures of it. I was really enjoying the show and did not want to divert my attention elsewhere. So I just switched on the camera to record a video instead which I will post links to here. Take a look. It is actually there on my Instagram profile.
Location of Sound and Light Show in Srinagar
The sound and light show is organized right next to Hotel Centaur. Just take a drive along the lake towards Nishat Bagh and you will come across the venue. If you arrived here after sunset, you will be able to hear the loud music coming from the lake clearly.
Timings
The show is organized 3 times every evening and lasts for about 20-30 minutes. The first show is at 8 pm and then it is repeated 2 more times.
Charges
The last time I was there, the entry fee was Rs. 150 per person.
How to Plan
The best way to plan your evening would be to first reach Ghat No. 23 on Dal Lake. You will find a lot of Shikaras there. If you were interested, you can first go for a Shikara ride at the time of sunset which is possibly the best time to do it.
After that, come back to the entry gate of the sound and light show venue and spend the next hour there. It is like an open theater area with proper seating arrangements and a few small restaurants. If you were hungry, you can even have your dinner right there.
