Hotel Kargil Heights – Great Place to Stay in Kargil

by Vargis.Khan

I was recently on a trip to Kashmir and Zanskar. For a few days, I stayed in Kargil as well, in Hotel Kargil Heights. The post below is a brief summary of how our stay here was, what did I like or dislike about the hotel, and whether or not I will recommend it to others.

I stayed in this hotel for a total of 4 days. We changed rooms once so I stayed in 2 of their rooms. The overall atmosphere and the location of the hotel are quite good and that is why we actually extended our stay from 2 to 4 days. In fact, we actually wanted to stay for a day more but decided against it since we were short on time.

About Hotel Kargil Heights

With the recent boost in tourism in Ladakh, a lot of hotels have come up in the entire region of Leh Ladakh. Now you can find hotels and homestays in even the remotest of villages. The same is the case with Kargil as well.

Being a major stopover on the route, there is really no dearth of hotels here. Finding a budget hotel, however, can sometimes be a little problematic. On average, the average rate of a decent enough hotel in Kargil will not be less than Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000 at the least.

Depending on the tourist season, you may find a place to stay for less. But the amount I quoted above is what the overall average comes out to be.

So keeping that price tag in mind, the deal I got in Kargil Heights was actually a pretty decent one and that is why I did not mind extending our stay here.

What I liked about the Hotel

The hotel is very well-built and looks quite modern. It is divided into two buildings and has plenty of space around it. The rooms were spacious enough and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was changed on a daily basis.

It has a western-style toilet. The bathroom was very large with hot running water throughout the day. In both buildings, outside the rooms is a very large lobby-type area with seating arrangements.

The hotel has a kitchen of its own. Our dinner and breakfast were included in the total fare I paid so we mostly ate at the hotel only. The food was delicious and the items served were different all day when we were there.

The staff is very friendly as well. One of their staff members did not even mind getting in my car and taking me for a sightseeing tour, for no extra charge at all.

In fact, on the last day when we were leaving, I forgot my phone charger in the room. One of their staff members called me to inform me and then drove for about 3 kilometers on his Activa to hand it over to me.

The hotel has free wifi but the reception in the second building is a little weak. So if that is something you needed, please make sure you look for a room in the first building that has a reception area.

The location of the hotel is good as well. It is located on the banks of the Suru River and you get a very nice view of the town from your hotel balcony. You can even walk down to the river in about 2 minutes from the hotel.

What I did Not Like

Not much actually. My stay was very comfortable and the staff was quite courteous. The only hassle I faced for a day was when they accommodated us in the second building where the wifi reception was weak.

I needed a stable internet connection and that proved to be a bit of a problem on the first day. But they moved us to the first building in the morning on the very next day when the other guests moved out.

Hotel Kargil Heights – Conclusion

In the end, I would say that Hotel Kargil Heights is a great hotel to stay in Kargil. The Kargil city viewpoint is also quite close to the hotel and the market is just 5 mins of a walk away.
