Manali and Ladakh in today’s date are among the top most visited tourist destinations of our country. Thousands of people visit here each year and the number is still on the rise. With that much tourism comes a lot of money and with money come other problems; which is what is now happening in both Manali and Ladakh. Each year the Bike and Taxi rental associations here fight over who is going to get a bigger piece of the tourism cake. Or in a way, who is going to rob the tourists more.<\/p>\n

This year has been no different either. Like previous years, 2019 too started with a dispute among Manali Bike Renal association and Ladakh Bike rental association. So far, the arrangement between both the parties has been that Manali operated motorcycles will not operate for sightseeing in Ladakh; and Ladakh rented motorcycles won’t be allowed in Manali. Now it seems that there is a dispute between both the associations again which will eventually result in unnecessary hassle for the tourists.<\/p>\n

Details of the dispute are as mentioned in the document below. But the part that I would like to highlight is the one that says Manali association will not allowed bikes rented from other states to go to Ladakh. So it means that if you rented a bike from Delhi or Punjab, you will not be allowed to proceed any further from Manali and will be sent back.<\/p>\n

Is this a law? Definitely not. This is a self-enforced rule by the locals in both Manali and Ladakh. “Gunda gardi” is what I actually call it which has been the case with Ladakh off late anyways. With the rise in tourism, it is no longer a place where gentle and friendly people lived. I have been blogging about Ladakh for several years now and it breaks my heart to admit but the harsh reality is that the place is actually going downhill. The taxi and motorcycle unions in both Manali and Ladakh are nothing but a bunch of “Gundas” who try their best to rob tourists each year the best they can. This year too has been no different. This will eventually get resolved but the price of it will come out of the pockets of the tourist lot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
