Traveling to Ladakh by public transport seems to be gaining a lot of popularity in recent years. It was not really a popular or a good choice until a few years ago; but after recent boost in tourism, a lot of people have started to travel here by either a Bus or shared taxi. You will have to find a way back to Diskit from Turtuk and then board a shared cab from there. Turtuk to Leh direct would be tough

Haan mil jaayegi. Kisi bhi Kargil ki taraf jaati hui bus ya shared taxi mein beth jana aur Nimmoo utar jana.

Hello Vargis, thanks a lot for all the helpful information. would you happen to know if there is regular public transport between 1. Leh Shey, and 2. Leh Lamayuru, and their schedule? Thanks a lot.

Thanks Miguel. You will have to rely on shared cabs for both these destinations which you can get from Leh Bus stand.

Going to Leh next week and my budget is tight. I just want to visit places like Nubra, Pangong, Sangam. It looks like I can make great savings if I travel by bus.
Are the bus services reliable?
Are shared taxi to these attractions easy to find?

Hello vargis bhai,
Thanks a lot.. It is very helpful. I’m planning to visit ladakh in Sep. I just want to know is there any public transport or sharing cab option between the nubra like between Diskit to turtuk.

Thanks

Hi Shiva Bhai – Yes you can get a shared cab within Nubra itself. Frequency won’t be that great but you can find mode of transport. If not then just hitchhike. There will be a lot of tourists in Nubra valley and won’t say no for a lift. Or you can talk to people at the hotel you are staying at and see if anyone is headed towards your destination. If you find 4 to 5 people with the same itinerary, then all of you can even rent a private cab and share the cost.

Hello Mr Vargis.. I want to know if there is any public transport from Hanle to Leh. Also are there any private cab options that can be taken for reaching Leh and what will be the cost?

Reply
Vargis.Khan July 21, 2018 - 7:41 pm

Please see row 10 in the attached image. That is Hanle, spelled as Hunleh there. A Private cab will cost at least Rs. 15 to 17k for a 2 days journey to Hanle.

should we obtain ILP for travelling in buses too

Permit is applicable irrespective of how you are traveling. Even if by a Bus, you will still need to get the permit.

Srinivasan G May 16, 2018 - 3:26 am

How many days are the permits valid?
Is it better to get permit from hotel people or get it by my own. My hotel guy informed permits to hanle are not given?

Vargis.Khan May 16, 2018 - 3:53 am

Yes Hanle is off the limits this year. For details on the permit, see the post below.

Thanks a lot…I will be traveling solo and on a restricted budget and this will work for me perfectly as I am planning to go to Leh on around 10th next month.
It will be more helpful if you have any information regarding these two questions-
1. The same bus returns from pangong on the next day, but any idea when it reaches Leh approximately? Will it be possible to catch the bus for Srinagar after returning from pangong?
2. There are sharing manali-Leh taxis, which are available from manali and Leh for both side journey. I know, from manali, they starts around mid night (approx 2 am) and reach Leh around 6 pm. But, what about Leh to manali service? What is the starting time of those cabs from Leh? Will it be possible to catch those cab on the very same day after returning from pangong by bus?
Thanks again for your beautiful blogs…

Vargis.Khan May 15, 2018 - 5:53 pm

You are welcome Abhra.

1. No you will not be able to catch the Srinagar Bus. It will actually be a very close call as the bus too reaches Leh around 2-3 PM.
2. Shared cabs for Manali start from Leh late at night only so that they can make it to Manali by evening next day.
