Kalachakra, literally meaning “time-wheel” or “time-cycles” is an important Buddhist event and this year it is going to be held in Leh. His Holiness Dalai Lama will initiate the event on July 3rd 2014 and it will last until July 14th 2014.
What does it mean for someone who is planning for a trip to Leh? Well it means that you will find Leh packed with people attending the event, mostly followers of His Holiness Dalai Lama who will gather in Leh during this time to learn the teachings and rituals. Last Kalachakra event was held in Bodhgaya, Bihar and the small town saw over 150,000 people turning up to attend. So If you are planning a trip to Leh this year, advice would be to not plan it between July 3rd to 14th but if you must then make sure that you make your accommodation arrangements well in advance. If you are not traveling on a self owned vehicle, please ensure that you have also made your travel arrangements in well ahead of your trip.
