Woodman BT8 Compact Bass Tube Review

by Vargis.Khan

I recently purchased a Woodman BT8 Bass tube for my Car and after using the product for a while, below is a brief review of how I find it. Overall I can say that the experience has been satisfactory. Woodman is not really that known or famous in India audio market; and I too was initially a little hesitant about whether or not to buy it. But then for a few reasons (which I have mentioned below) I decided to give it a shot. So far this Bass Tube has not really disappointed me. I bought it online from Amazon and that experience too was good enough. Delivery was on time; and packing was quite good with a brand new product in excellent condition, no damage anywhere.

I am using this Bass Tube in my Mahindra Thar. For last couple of year since I bought the Thar, I have been driving it around with a soft cover. Due to safety reasons, I never thought to install a music system in it until now; as with the soft cover, it is a child’s play to get inside Thar and steal the music system. So for peace of my mind, initially I bought a local stereo and some cheap speakers for a couple of thousand bucks and installed that; with the thought that even if it got stolen, it won’t hurt me much.

A few months ago, I decided to upgrade my Thar with a hard top and some other modifications including a better music system. For stereo head, I bought a Sony double din and 4 Sony speakers. Now the confusion remained about which Bass Tube to go for. Woodman was definitely not my first choice; as a matter of fact it was not even in the list at all. I was thinking about other brands like Sony, JBL, Pioneer, Blaupunkt etc but then there were two major factors that had to be taken in to consideration.

Space

Space with Mahindra Thar is a major drawback. It is severely restricted and with 4 speaker boxes, it became an even bigger problem. I travel around a lot and it is mostly with friends in Thar. Because of this, I also had to keep some space  for all the luggage to be carried on trips. Installing a huge sub-woofer and an amplifier was seriously going to compromise the space. I was looking for a sub-woofer that was not too huge and had built in amplifier.

Cost

With all the modifications in the Thar, I was already bleeding on the money side. Spending another 6 to 7k for a subwoofer and then another 6-7k for an amplifier was sounding a bit of an expense. A subwoofer that can do the job until I can afford a better one was largely on my mind and that is where Woodman came in to picture.

Woodman Bass Tube Review

Woodman Bass tubes come in three size; 8, 10 and 12 inches. I may be wrong here but researching on the web, these were the three sizes that I came across. Since I needed a subwoofer that did not take too much space, I went for the smallest of the three; the 8 inches one. I ordered it online from Amazon and to my surprise, this Bass Tube quite turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.

Installing in the Car

Space I had on my mind was under the rear parallel seats and the tube fit in quite nicely. It did not take much space and cramped up easily under the seat; almost a perfect fit. It is not entirely round, has a flat base which is extremely useful since it helps the tube sit on the floor without rolling around.

Sound & Performance

Now let us take a look at the most important aspect; the sound part. At about 30% of the gain, it goes very nicely with my Sony head and speakers. I listen to all kinds of music; from Ghazals to Hard Rock;1950s Mohammed Rafi to Hip Hop; Ataullah Khan to Honey Singh; English, French, Hindi, Spanish, Punjabi; almost everything. I have a huge music collection and everything plays randomly in the Car.

When playing English music, the sound is almost great. The problem however comes when playing Hindi songs. If there is a Tabla sound or a prominent Dhol in the song, sometimes the bass becomes a bit too harsh and I have to tone it down. An example of such song would be Kun Fayan Kun from movie Rockstar. For any such kind of song, I have to lower the bass a bit. But this problem is only with about 10%; for rest of the 90% listening, the sound is quite satisfactory.

Price

This is the greatest benefit of this Bass Tube. If you went with any other brand, a Bass Tube will easily cost you around 5K at the least and then you would spend another 5-6k for amplifier; another Rs. 500 – Rs. 750 for installation kit. Woodman Bass Tube will come for half of that price. With an inbuilt amplifier, You can easily get this whole package deal for under Rs. 5000. For this price, you cannot really ask for something better.

Woodman BT8 – Final Verdict

This is definitely not the best Bass Tube out there. You can get other products that will be 10 times better but will also cost you more money. I have 2 other cars in which I am using JBL and Pioneer systems. Sound in those cars is much better but than I paid way more than Rs. 5000 for those Bass Tubes.

For this price range, a Bass tube + amplifier in under Rs. 5000, I can definitely say that Woodman BT8 is the best you can get. Sound quality, if not awesome, is more than satisfactory and it is quite capable of shaking your car.  If it is a hatchback you want to buy the tube for, then definitely go with Woodman. It will not take much space, will fit in quite nicely and will give you the value for your money.

Amazon Services

As I mentioned, I bought this Bass Tube online so a few words on Amazon services as well. Delivery was on time on the promised date; packaging was quite nice and product received was genuine and without any damage. Price that I was getting on Amazon was quite the same as that offered on other sites with a small difference. If you want to order it online, I will recommend Amazon.

You don’t need to order anything else bro. Just bring your car to any car electrician and they will have the necessary cables to install the tube

What about fixing it with the original audio system of Honda. Do you need an adaptor or additional accessories
