Leh Ladakh in 6 Days – Best 6 Days Itinerary for Leh Ladakh

by Vargis.Khan

Leh Ladakh in 6 Days

In this article, I will provide a few sample itineraries to visit Leh Ladakh in 6 days. I will first detail an itinerary that I recommend, followed by a few other ways to go about it. You can pick either of these travel plans that suits you the best. Depending on your preference, you can also add or remove places to draft your own 6 days itinerary for Leh Ladakh.

The most important thing to remember here is that a 6-day visit to Ladakh can only be an air trip. You will have to fly in and out of Ladakh for it to be truly a pleasurable trip. Trying to make this trip by road will only mean added hassle. Most of the time will be spent on the road and I highly recommend that you do not attempt to do so.

If you have any other questions,  you can contact me on Instagram and I will be happy to answer. You can also consider subscribing to my YouTube channel and asking a question there.

To organize your trip to Ladakh, book a taxi, rent a bike, or get the best hotel rates, you can contact Kunal @ 9910402252. From luxurious hotels to budget stays, he can help get you the best rates possible.

Leh Ladakh in 6 days

The first itinerary that I am detailing is by flight. If you were thinking about making this a road trip to Ladakh by either a car or a bike, please scroll straight toward the bottom of this page. I have covered this information in detail towards the end.

The information below covers traveling to Ladakh in a manner that you spend 6 days there, and come back home on Day 7. If you were however only spending 5 days in Ladakh and returning home on the 6th Day, please read How to Plan a 5 Days Ladakh Trip.

Let me first talk about a few important things that you must keep in mind before arriving in Ladakh. After that, I will move on to the itinerary part.

Acute Mountain Sickness in Ladakh

The biggest concern for anyone reaching Ladakh by Air is acute mountain sickness. Within a matter of hours, altitude increases by a considerable amount. You bring your body to heights that it has never been to or accustomed to, and that too all of a sudden.

A slow gain in altitude is the best prevention against mountain sickness which doesn’t really happen in the case of a flight. It then becomes of utmost importance that you allow sufficient time for acclimatization after you land in Leh.

Not stressing your body too much and ample amount of rest become the key factors here.  For more details on altitude sickness, please read How to handle acute mountain sickness in Ladakh.

How serious it can be? Well, several tourists have died in Ladakh because of altitude sickness, including a friend of my own. Hence, it would be in your best interest to take it very seriously.

For most people, their first day after landing in Leh is usually difficult. There is no other way around it but to allow your body some time to adjust. It is highly advised that your first day should be spent in the hotel, waiting for the symptoms to subside.

You should not plan anything for this day. If you feel better by evening, you can take a stroll through the market. You can also visit Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa in Leh City.

If your condition worsened, please seek medical help immediately. There are hospitals in Ladakh that are well-equipped to handle medical emergencies, especially because of altitude sickness.

Sightseeing in Ladakh

The second point is in terms of local sightseeing. Can you really visit all the places while trying to cover Leh Ladakh in 6 days? The answer to this question is both a yes and no.

If your plan was to visit all of the major tourist attractions,  then 6 days is ample time for that. If however, you want to experience some remote areas of Ladakh, visit some lesser-known places, and experience the culture and lifestyle here, then 6 days is a bit short to do all that.

On a 6 days trip to Ladakh, you will still get to witness the beauty that Ladakh is. You experience the enchanting culture, get a taste of adventure, and have plenty of time to click loads of pictures.

The remote regions, however, like Changthang Valley, places like Hanle, and both the roads leading to Leh will have to be left out for another trip at another time.

Inner Line Permit

Please note that Inner Line Permit is a mandatory requirement. You must obtain it in order to visit places like Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, and Tso Moriri. This permit is issued at the DM office in Leh and can also be applied online. Please read How to Obtain Inner Line Permit for Ladakh for more details on the procedure and related charges.

Cost of the Trip

Last but not least is the overall cost of the trip. To be honest, your options to make this a budget trip are rare; unless you got a really cheap deal on flight tickets and traveling in a group of 5 to 6 people.

The charges for private taxis are quite steep in Ladakh. Unless you are in a group and the overall cost of the cab can be split between multiple people, this may cost you a little bit.

If you want to reduce the cost of the trip, you can either rent a bike or rely on public transport, both buses and shared cabs. I will discuss that as well further in the article.

Leh Ladakh in 6 Days

6 Days Itinerary for Leh Ladakh

With all the above said and done, mentioned below is a 6 days Itinerary for Ladakh. If you were looking for an itinerary where you can fly out of Leh and reach home on Day 6 itself, then please read How to Plan a Trip to Ladakh in 5 Days.

I will first post the one that I recommend, followed by a few variations. You can choose either of these travel plans that suit you the most.

  • Arrive in Leh & Rest – Day 1
  • Stay Leh, Arrange Permits & Local Sightseeing – Day 2
  • Leh to Diskit (Nubra Valley) – Day 3
  • Diskit to Turtuk / Panamik – Day 4
  • Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake by Shyok Road – Day 5
  • Pangong Tso to Leh – Day 6
  • Fly Out – Day 7

Why will I call this itinerary a recommended one? There are a few reasons behind that.

Why this Itinerary?

The first reason is that it gives plenty of time to your body to adjust. You rest in Leh all day on Days 1 & 2 and spend time arranging permits, making arrangements for the journey ahead, and for local sightseeing in Leh City.

By Day 3 your body would have acclimatized and you will cross Khardung La. Even for the next 2 days, you will spend time in Nubra Valley which is actually at even a lower altitude than Leh city. So once again, no risk of more gain in altitude.

The third reason is that you can easily follow this itinerary irrespective of your mode of travel, even if traveling by public transport. In peak tourist season, there is a regular bus service to Nubra and Pangong. Even if you could not find a bus, you will easily find a shared taxi from the Leh bus stand itself.

The fourth reason is that in case you were thinking of hiring a taxi or renting a motorcycle, it will give you plenty of time to do so in the first 2 days. You can try out a few motorcycles, ride them around in the city for a couple of days and be sure of them before heading towards Nubra or Pangong.

Last but not least, if AMS hits you harder than you thought and your situation worsens, you will at least have the choice of getting medical assistance at the start of the trip itself.

Day 1 & 2: Arrive and rest in Leh

Most of the flights to and out of Leh are early in the morning which really works in your favor while visiting Leh Ladakh in 6 days.

It means that you will arrive in Leh early in the morning on Day 1. It will give you an entire day to rest, acclimatize and take care of a few necessary things. On Day 7, you can take a flight out early in the morning again and be home in a couple of hours.

The first task for the day after you arrive in Leh is to find a place to stay which is not really a problem. No matter what your budget or preference is, you will easily find a hotel to your taste. The second task will be to arrange the permits and the third one will be to make travel arrangements.

If you were already suffering from AMS and doing all this seems like a big hassle, then just rest at the hotels and leave all of it for Day 2. If you were feeling better by evening, visit the local market and see the sunset from Shanti Stupa.

Arrangements for your Stay, Permits & Transport

For travel arrangements, you can either rent a private taxi or rent a motorcycle. Renting a private taxi will be the best choice and if you do so, make this arrangement as well in advance. That way, the driver can pick you up straight from the airport and drop you at the hotel.

After taking care of this, you can do some local sightseeing in the town. Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, the local market, and monasteries like Thiksey, Hemis, Stakna, and Shey are some of the places you can visit.

leh palace

 Day 3: Leh to Diskit

By your third day, your body would already have acclimatized to high altitude and symptoms of AMS subsided. On this day, you will cross your first high-altitude pass, Khardung La, and reach the enchanting Nubra Valley.

An early start from Leh is highly recommended as it would give you ample time for sightseeing on the way. Khardung La is merely 30 odd kilometers from Leh and it shouldn’t take you more than a couple of hours to get there.

At the top of the pass, there is an Army canteen where they serve tea and some refreshments. Do not stay for way too long at the top though. Click a few pictures, see the snow-capped peaks around and be on your way.

Road conditions are mostly OK except for around the top of the pass, between South and North Pullu. From Khardung Top, you will descend down towards Nubra Valley while crossing the village of Khardung on the way.

You can either stay at Diskit, Panamik, Sumur, Hunder, or Turtuk. Of all these, I will recommend that you stay at Diskit because the choice of hotels and guest houses here is the widest. For a list of some hotels and guest houses, please read Recommended Hotels and Guest Houses in Nubra Valley.

Sightseeing

Depending on your breaks and speed, you should reach Diskit well in time for some sightseeing as well. Diskit Monastery, the grand Buddha statue, Hunder sand dunes, and Bactrian camels are some of the most famous tourist attractions in Nubra Valley and can easily be covered in 2-3 hours.

For a complete list of places to see here, please read Tourist Attractions in Nubra Valley.

In case you were traveling by public transport, you can either board a bus or a shared taxi from Leh bus stand for Diskit. Both the bus and taxis start early in the day so please make sure you are there in time.

bactrian camels

Day 4: Diskit to Turtuk / Panamik

You will stay in Nubra Valley on Day 4 and explore it further. You have two choices for this day.

About 80 kilometers from Diskit is the small village of Turtuk, the last village on the Indian side of the borders. The culture of this village is entirely different than what you would have seen so far in Ladakh. The people here are of Balti heritage and mostly Muslims.

The landscape of Turtuk is also different. While Ladakh is mostly a barren wasteland, Turtuk is all lush green and a sight to behold. For more details, please take a look at How to Plan a Trip to Turtuk Village.

So a visit to Turtuk is highly recommended. Even if you were traveling by public transport, there is a daily bus from Diskit that you can board for Turtuk.

After exploring the village, you can either stay there for the night or come back to Diskit. From there, you can go to the other side of the valley and visit Panamik. The hotel water spring in Panamik is worth a visit. If you wish, you can also take a dip in it.

If you went to Turtuk by bus though, you will have to stay there for the night as the return journey can only be made the next day.

turtuk village

Day 5: Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso

The plan for today is to visit Pangong Tso, the lake that has over time become the very symbol of Ladakh. To get here, depending on where you spent your Day 4 in Nubra Valley, you will have to drive all the way back to Khalsar Village.

A little after Khalsar, the road bifurcates. One will take you uphill to Khardung La and Leh while the other will take you towards Agham Village. Do not go uphill and continue to Agham Village.

At Agham, the road will bifurcate again. The one on the right will take you to Wari La Pass and the one to your left will go to Shyok Village. Turn left and continue driving next to Shyok River all the way to Shyok Village.

After that, you will continue on the same road to Durbuk Village, and from there, it is a straight run to Spangmik (Pangong Tso). Travel time between Diskit or Panamik to Pangong is about 5 hours. If you stayed in Turtuk, it will be about 7 hours.

Once at the lake, you can choose to stay at either the campsites or guest houses available. For a list of accommodation choices at the lake and their contact information, please read Hotels, Guest Houses, and Camp Sites at Pangong Tso.

Day 6: Pangong Tso to Leh

On the last day of your trip, you will once again return to Leh but will take a different route. From Pangong, start driving back on Chang La road. The condition of the road is mostly good except for a small stretch near the top of the pass.

Spend some time at the top of the pass, get a cup of tea, and be on your way to Leh. Overall it will be about 7-8 hours of journey depending upon your breaks and speed. On the way, you can also visit the Thiksey monastery before getting to Leh.

Day 7: Return Flight

On Day 7 of the trip, you will catch a return flight home, marking an end to your 6 days trip to Ladakh.

pangong lake

Ladakh 6 Day Itinerary by Public Transport

The biggest problem in the itinerary above for someone traveling by public transport is the direct route from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake by Shyok Road. There are no buses or shared cabs available on this route.

You may get lucky and find a shared cab from Diskit but if you did not, then your options are limited to just two. Either hitchhike or come back to Leh. If you found someone who was going that way and was ready to drop you off, then follow the itinerary above.

If you would rather not take chances and stay on the safer side, you should stick to the itinerary below.

  • Arrive in Leh & Rest – Day 1
  • Stay Leh, Arrange Permits & Local Sightseeing – Day 2
  • Leh to Diskit (Nubra Valley) – Day 3
  • Diskit to Leh – Day 4
  • Leh to Pangong Lake – Day 5
  • Pangong Lake to Leh – Day 6
  • Fly Out – Day 7

There are daily buses and shared cabs between Leh, Nubra Valley, and Pangong Lake that you can board and comfortably complete the journey without hassle.

Itinerary 3

Here is the third itinerary to visit Ladakh in 6 days.

  • Arrive in Leh – Day 1
  • Sham Valley Tour – Day 2
  • Leh to Nubra Valley – Day 3
  • Nubra Valley to Leh – Day 4
  • Leh to Pangong Tso – Day 5
  • Pangong Tso to Leh – Day 6

The only difference in this itinerary is on Day 2. Rather than resting in Leh, you can choose to drive on the Srinagar Leh highway toward Sham Valley.

You can drive all the way to Lamayuru and see Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, Magnetic Hill, and Indus-Zanskar Rivers Confluence on the way. You can also visit Lunar Landscape at Lamayuru and Mulbekh Maitreya and be back in Leh by evening.

This too is a good way to travel and explore more areas. The only reason why I suggested it first is because you may have trouble finding public transport for Day 2. If you wish to go this way, you must rent a private taxi or a motorcycle.

leh ladakh in 6 days

Itinerary 4

  • Arrive in Leh – Day 1
  • Leh to Kargil – Day 2
  • Kargil to Leh – Day 3
  • Leh to Nubra Valley – Day 4
  • Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso via Shyok road – Day 5
  • Pangong Tso to Leh – Day 6

This itinerary covers a lot of places and really gives you the worth of your 6 days. What is wrong with it? Only one thing, you really need to either rent a private taxi or a motorcycle to follow this plan. Completing this itinerary by public transport is nearly impossible.

Traveling this way, you will arrive and rest in Leh on Day 1. On Day 2, you will take the Srinagar Leh road and reach all the way to Kargil and stay there for the night; returning to Leh the next day.

This way you would have seen at least half of Srinagar Leh road, Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, Magnetic Hill, and the Indus-Zanskar confluence. You can also visit some other villages en-route like Alchi and Likir.

On Day 4 you will go to Leh. On Day 5 however, rather than returning to Leh, you will take the Shyok road to go straight to Pangong Tso.

kargil

Itinerary 5

If you are not too keen on staying at Kargil, then an alternate itinerary can be as below.

  • Arrival in Leh – Day 1
  • A day-long trip on Srinagar Leh highway – Day 2
  • Leh to Nubra Valley – Day 3
  • Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso – Day 4
  • Pangong Tso to Moriri – Day 5
  • Tso Moriri to Leh – Day 6

Traveling this way, you will also be able to include Tso Moriri in your itinerary which will cover most of the main tourist attractions between Leh and Kargil. The catch however is that the journey between Pangong Tso to Tso Moriri can easily be about 10-12 hours; so you must start early from Pangong Tso.

This can also only be done if you are traveling by private taxi or rented bike.

Also read: 10 Reasons Why You Should NEVER visit Ladakh

Itinerary 6

Another way for the journey can be as mentioned below. This is applicable only to someone who has been to Ladakh before and now wants to cover the Zanskar side.

  • Arrival in Leh – Day 1
  • Leh to Kargil – Day 2
  • Kargil to Padum – Day 3
  • Padum  – Day 4
  • Padum to Kargil – Day 5
  • Kargil to Leh via Batalik – Day 6

leh ladakh in 6 days

6 Days Itinerary for Leh Ladakh

Let me also suggest a more adventurous version of the itinerary.

  • Leh – Day 1
  • Leh to Diskit – Day 2
  • Diskit to Pangong – Day 3
  • Pangong to Hanle – Day 4
  • Hanle to Tso Moriri – Day 5
  • Tso Moriri to Leh via Tso Kar, More Plains, and Tanglang La – Day 6
  • Fly Out – Day 7

This one by far is my favorite of all the itineraries. You will really end up exploring Ladakh, covering some bad roads and spending your time in lesser-known places with not many people around.

Ladakh 5 Nights 6 Days

Now all the above itineraries were for someone who was spending 6 days completely in Ladakh. If you were however hoping to catch a flight home on Day 6; then the trip will be in the following manner.

  • Arrive in Leh – Day 1
  • Sham Valley Tour – Day 2
  • Leh to Nubra Valley – Day 3
  • Nubra Valley to Pangong via Shyok – Day 4
  • Pangong to Leh – Day 5
  • Fly Out – Day 6

Or like this

  • Arrive in Leh – Day 1
  • Leh to Diskit – Day 2
  • Diskit to Pangong via Shyok – Day 3
  • Pangong to Moriri – Day 4
  • Moriri to Leh – Day 5
  • Fly Out – Day 6

Itinerary for Leh Ladakh Bike Trip in 6 Days

A straight one-line answer to this question is that no you cannot do it; unless you were living either in Manali or Srinagar or someplace even closer. Think of it this way; you will need at least one day from your hometown to reach Manali or Srinagar.

Then two days would be needed to get to Leh.  That is 3 days worth of journey which again will be needed for going back home.

Also Read: How Much a Bike Trip to Ladakh will cost?

So in 6 days, you will just reach Leh, touch Ladakh, and come back home. Not an ideal bike trip you thought, is it? This is how your itinerary will pan out.

  • Delhi to Manali – Day 1
  • Manali to Keylong – Day 2
  • Keylong to Leh – Day 3
  • Leh to Sarchu – Day 4
  • Sarchu to Manali – Day 5
  • Manali to Delhi – Day 6

Even for this, you will have to leave out the Srinagar route entirely. Rohtang permit in Manali would have to be arranged well in advance or you will have to travel by the Rohtang Tunnel. The farthest that you can be in is either Delhi or Chandigarh; or someplace at an equal distance. Any farther than that and you cannot even touch Ladakh in 6 days.

Leh Ladakh in 6 Days – Conclusion

I would still advise adding a couple of days to your trip if at all possible to make the journey more enjoyable. However, if you cannot, then you can plan your visit to Ladakh in 6 days in the above manner.

I hope the information on visiting Leh Ladakh in 6 days was of help. If you have any questions, you can contact me on Instagram and I will be happy to answer. You can also consider subscribing to my YouTube channel and asking a question there.

Hi Vargis,

This has been a great blog with different itenaries for everyone’s preference!
I would like to try the itenary 7 listed as the most adventurous one. We’re a group of 4 planning to travel on 16 Apr 2022 for 6 days and return flight on 22nd.
Towards the end of the itenary on day 6 from tso moriri to leh, will we have time in the 2nd half of the day to do sight seeing or shipping like the leh palace, stupa, thiskey monastery? Or possible to go to sham valley?

Also we will be reaching leh on 16 in the afternoon so will only have the 2nd half to rest at the hotel. Do you think that’s sufficient and we can leave for nubra the next morning?

Reply
Vargis.Khan March 27, 2022 - 2:21 am

Hi Shruti – There will not be a lot of time to do Sham Valley but you can definitely go as far as Magnetic Hill and Sangam Point. Or you can just stay in the town and visit places like Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa. I will recommend the latter.

Hard to say how long you will need to rest. It all depends on how your bodies will react when you land there. It is different for everyone.

Hi Vargis,
Thank you for the detailed report of Leh visit. A must visit website for anyone planning to travel to Ladakh.
Our plan is to visit for 7 days in total in July 2022.
My question is regarding accommodation. Number of people would be 4+ adults and 2 kids under 15.
Never explored home stays till now in India.
Which is better in terms of cleanliness, safety, food and cost ? Hotel stay or Home stays ? Will there be any problems w.r.t food for pure vegetarians ?
Thanks a bunch.

Thank you, Ana. Hotels are definitely better than homestays, especially for a group of 6. Homestays in my opinion are more suitable for 1 or 2 people. Vegetarian food will not be a problem

2. Is Septemeber is good time to vist laddakh? 3. Bast place to hire bike in laddakh.

Hello brother,

First of all, a big thanks for penning down such a detailed itinerary for all kinds of travelers. It is surely helpful to anyone planning a trip to Ladakh.
However, I have some questions, which if you could answer them, would be a great help to me.
1. Considering a trip in the third week of September 2022. Would it be a good time, weather-wise? As I heard, the rain stops by then, the weather is pretty clear, and the cold starts coming in. Is the cold by that time too much to endure?
2. My wife and I plan to explore Leh on a rented bike. Is the terrain overall good for an average biker?
3. Because there are fewer tourists at that time, do fewer fellow travelers on Leh’s long routes pose any risk of becoming stranded in the event of an unfortunate incident?
4. Are the rented bikes reliable for five days’ worth of journeys?
5. As September is less crowded, but still, shall we book our accommodations at Nubra or Pangong in advance? Or we can easily get places to stay while on a visit there. The problem is that many of the places there, especially the ones you recommended, are not available online.
6. As the itinerary involves leaving the town of Leh and staying at Pangong & Nubra Valley in between the trip, do the travelers pack their luggage and carry them on bikes after checking out of Leh? Isn’t that too much to carry OR tourists travel light?
I know I have asked a lot, but still try to answer as much as you can. Thanks in advance.

Also, am confused if we should visit Tso Moriri as we are going Pangong?

Though we can add days to our trip or can do some changes for Tso Moriri but will it be worth visiting ?

Please suggest.

1. Turtuk is worth visiting, I will recommend it.
2. If you can add more days, then please do so. From Pangong, go to Hanle, then go to Moriri the next day and then circle back to Leh. It will be better this way.

Hi Vargis,

Sure we will plan.

Thanks again for the response and your suggestion is really helpful for us!

I have one last query : We can’t do bike ride due to some concerns. Hence is it possible that we can get open Jeep kinda vehicle for the whole trip so that we can enjoy the view more ?

Is there any taxi union constraints in this as what I checked most of the taxi providers are providing SUV and saying no for open jeep or that kind of vehicles?

Please suggest.

Vargis.Khan January 30, 2020 - 8:17 pm

Hi Smruti – Finding an open Jeep would be tough. Please talk to Nasir @ 9906229203 in Leh and see if he can arrange something for u.

Hi Vargis,

Also, one more thing I would like to confirm as we know Leh-Manali highway will be closed in May and we are going to Ladakh in May month (16th or 23rd).

We are taking flight to Leh from Delhi and will visit places like Shaam Valley, Nubra, Pangong and may be Tso Moriri (not sure).

So in this way, will Leh-Manali road closing affect our trip?

Is Srinagar-Leh highway opened in May?

Vargis.Khan January 30, 2020 - 7:05 pm

Hi Smruti,

Hi
Thanks for the iternary. Can you please let us know where can I find the status of leh ladakh highway. I am planning to travel on Oct 21st on bike

It is too late in the season to be riding a bike. Manali to Leh is closed and the situation in Srinagar is not good.

Hi Vargis, i read your ladakh travel as mush as i could and It captures every aspect that a man’s mind can conceive for this itinerary. I need ur suggestion on booking hotels. I am planning a 7 day trip to Ladakh in April, on 7th day i will fly back to Delhi. So, would it be wise if i don’t books hotels for Nubra and Pangong Tso lake in advance? And, try to explore accommodation there. I am booking hotels in Leh for all 6 days of my stay because i am planning to come back to Leh after each trip as it can be easily covered this way in the month of April.

Hi Shakti – It would be better to book if you are traveling in April. It is early in the season and not many hotels are operational at this time.

Hi Vargis

I am planning to visit Leh in May 2019 First week.

I would appreciate if you could tell me about ILP.

Should we fill online application and deposit fee at DM office once we reached at Leh?

I plan to visit Nubra vally and Panong Tso, should I write all the route address in the form like Chang La, sakti, Khardung La etc or just write Nubra vally and Panong Tso only ?

Thanks in advanced. Waiting for reply

Hi Achal – Just get the permit after you reach Leh. It is easier that way. And these days the names of the places area already mentioned in the form so you won’t actually have to write anything. Just need to check the correct option

Hi Vargis,
Thanks for all the information provided. We are 2 people planning to visit leh in first week of september and would like to cover the Zanskar river rafting if at all possible. We will be travelling by bike. Here is the iternary we are planning.
– 30th Aug(thursday): Early morning land in Leh. Get permit. visit whatever local places we can
– 31st Aug(friday): Leh to Nubra Valley(stay in nubra valley)
– 1st Sep(saturday): Nubra Valley to Pangong lake

From here we have 3 options
Option1
– 2nd Sep(Sunday)- Pangong to Leh
– 3rd Sep(Monday) – Leh to kargil
– 4th Sep(Tuesday) – kargil to leh
– 5th Sep(Wednesday) – Fly back to delhi

Option 2
– 2nd Sep(Sunday) – Pangong to Tso Moriri
– 3rd Sep(Monday) – Tso Moriri to Tso Kar
– 4th Sep(Tuesday) – Tso Kar to Leh

Option 3
– 2nd Sep(Sunday) – Pangong to Leh
– 3rd Sep(Monday) – Local leh Sightseeing
– 4th Sep(Tuesday) – Zanskar Rivers rafting

I am personally more in favor of Option 3 since for option 2, i got reviews like road is very bad between Pangong to Moriri. For option 1, i got reviews mentioned travel won’t be that scenic to kargil.
I am looking forward to your suggestions over the plan and your personal recommendation of what should we follow and please share your thoughts of any modification we should/can do to .

Vargis.Khan August 8, 2018 - 1:19 pm

Hi Ashutosh, To be honest, all three of these are good options. Final call would be really your personal choice and since you are eager on the rafting part, even I will recommend that you go for option 3. To answer your question, yes the road between Pangong and Moriri is a bit rough at places. There is however plenty to see between Leh and Kargil but maybe keep that for another trip at another time; a reason to visit Ladakh again. For this time, enjoy rafting in Ladakh.

Thanks vargis for replying. I do however have one question/favor to ask. We are 2 people travelling and worried about the puncture issue on the way. Do have any suggestions on how to overcome this problem, may be any pointers on how/where we can find a group to join.

You will have to carry spare tubes Ashutosh and learn how to take out the wheel, replace the tube and put it back in. I don’t know any groups as such, sorry.

Hello Vargis

Thanks for putting together detailed itineraries and there is no blog or site equivalent to yours on providing such info for Leh-Ladakh.

We are a family of two 30 year adults, three adults in late fifties and 3 year old visiting. We will fly into Srinagar on 28th and fly out of Leh on 6th. Gives us 8 days excluding those 2 days. Thinking of spending 1 day in Srinagar, 1 or 2 days from Srinagar to Leh journey and remaining 5-6 days in Ladakh. Since we have 50+ year olds thinking of a relaxed trip so cover just Nubra Valley and Pangong lake and skip Tso mariri.

Do we need to book hotels in advance for Leh, Nubra and Pangong? We are thinking to get Cottages at Nubra & Pangong so that elders can relax better. So atleast book cottages there in advance? What about Leh?

Can we directly go from Nubra to Pangong instead of trip back to Leh?

Reply
Vargis.Khan July 26, 2018 - 4:59 pm

Hello Chatrapthy – Thank you for your kind appreciating words. This year has seen a huge number of tourists in Ladakh. I even heard that people had to even return to Leh the same day from Pangong because there was just no place available anywhere for a night stay. So yes, to answer your question, I would recommend that you book in advance.

And yes, you can travel from Nubra to Pangong directly via Shyok road without needing to come back to Leh.

Dear Vargis

Following your blogs past one week. Initially planned to visit Spiti circuit as per your itenaries and directions. It was highly informative and i must thank you for such a comprehensive list of TO-DO and DO-NOT things..
Anyhow finally decided to visit LEH-LADAKH (choice of my spouse) during june 1st week … its a 9 day itenary

Day 1 fly to LEH from DELHI
Day 9 fly back to delhi

Help us in exploring nearby places.
I actually wanted to rent a local bike for all days…. Do u back this decision
Are there any places where we cannot drive bike… i mean its hectic to drive… i hope all places are bike accessible. can i rent activa kind so that my wife would also be interested to drive. Is activa suitable to all if not some places??

Kindly help me finalizing my budget also.
My airfare is 35,000/- (to and fro)…
how much can i spend for accomodation?
How much can i spend on bike??

ANyhow i have noted down Nasir Bhai taxi no. from one of your blogs… so i will have a last option of taking a taxi. But want to explore it on bike.

prior we planned to take a manali – leh – manali bike trip. But the itenary is so exhausting that we will be driving all through. so had to shift to this plan.

kindly acknowledge.

I once again congratulate you for doing such a great job..

If we rest completely on Day 1, will it be ok to go whitewater rafting on Day 2, or should we leave that for a little later in our trip. we will be there for 7 days including the day of arrival (flying in from Delhi). Thank you so much for this really helpful blog.

I will say that leave the rafting part for towards later part of the trip. Rafting is going to tire you and you really need your body properly acclimatized for that.
