ladakh taxi rates 2020

A road trip to Ladakh is best advised by your own vehicle. But that is not always a choice for everyone. The next best thing to do then is to catch a flight to Ladakh and rent a taxi there for local sightseeing. If you too were planning on doing the same then mentioned below are the Ladakh taxi rates in 2023 which can help you determine the overall cost and plan your trip budget.

For all other details on visiting Ladakh, like how to reach, where to stay, what to see, itinerary planning, etc, please take a look at How to Plan a Trip to Ladakh – A Complete Travel Guide. You can also contact me on Instagram to get answers to any questions you may have.

Should you book a taxi in advance? I would say that yes you should. Last year, during peak tourist season, people found it hard to find a taxi because everyone they called was booked already. I would highly recommend that you book a cab ahead of your visit.

For booking a taxi in Ladakh, please contact Kunal @ 9910402252. Give my reference and you will surely get discounted and the best available rates. Mentioned below are some of the most common tourist rates that he can get you at a discounted rate.

Taxi rates in Ladakh are a costly affair but it does have their own benefits as well. If you weren’t sure whether or not you should rent a cab there, then please read Why you should rent a taxi in Ladakh. Maybe the information posted here can help you make a final call.

Now coming to the topic of taxi rates, there are cars available for rent in Ladakh.

  • A Class – Innova, XUV and Aria
  • B Class – Scorpio, Safari, Sumo Grande, Xylo, Tavera, Qualis
  • C Class – Sumo, Eco, Van

Leh Airport Taxi Rates

For the sake of explaining this better, I will break the information down into different regions of Ladakh. I will begin with your arrival in Leh city. If you want to book a cab to pick you up from the airport and drop you at the hotel, then below is how much it is going to cost you.

Leh Airport to City Taxi Fare

Depending on how far your hotel is, a taxi from Leh airport to Leh city will cost you between Rs. 550 to Rs. 1,500. As you can see in the chart above, the charges for A and B Class taxis are exactly the same.

There is a small difference in the rates of C Class cabs but it is not too significant. Choglamsar Bridge is about 9 kilometers from the airport and Stok Palace is about 15 kilometers.

Leh Sightseeing Taxi Fare

Next, let us talk about the fare that you will be paying if you rent a cab for sightseeing in and around Leh City.

Leh to Khardung La Taxi Fare

If you rent a taxi for Khardung La, then it of course cannot be just a drop because you will also be using the same cab to return. That is the reason why it shows Rs. 0 in the drop field. Depending on what type of cab you chose, a drive from Leh to Khardung La and back will cost you between Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000.

Leh to Leh Palace Taxi Fare

Depending on which cab you chose, a taxi from your hotel to Leh Palace (drop and return) will cost you between Rs. 300 to Rs. 500.

Leh to Shanti Stupa Taxi Fare

Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa are in fact located quite close so you can actually rent the same cab for both places. But a cab just for Shanti Stupa will cost you between Rs. 300 to Rs. 500.

Leh to Nubra Valley Taxi Fare

Next, let me provide information on how much a taxi will cost from Leh to Nubra Valley. This is included in the Ladakh taxi rates 2023 chart list I posted above. But for the sake of saving time, mentioned below is how much it costs approximately.

Depending on the type of cab you chose and the destination you opt for, a cab from Leh to Nubra valley and a return in 2 days will cost you Rs. 10 – 13k for Diskit and Hunder.

If you go as far as Turtuk then this fare would increase to Rs. 13 to 14k. If you also include Panamik and make it a 3 days trip, then the fare would be between Rs. 18k to 21k.

Leh to Pangong Tso Taxi Fare

Depending on the type of cab you chose, a taxi from Leh to Pangong Tso and return in 2 days will cost you between Rs. 9k to Rs. 11k. If you want to continue traveling and explore even further, then a round trip to Chushul will cost Rs. 13,000 for one day; and Rs. 16,000 for two days (for A Class cabs).

Venturing further into Chumathang Valley; a private taxi to Hanle will cost about Rs. 17,000 round trip. If you want to complete the Pangong – Chushul – Tso Moriri – Leh circuit then a three-day trip on this route will cost you about Rs. 24,000.

Leh to Tso Moriri Taxi Fare

A one-day taxi from Leh to Tso Moriri and return will cost you Rs. 12,000. If you extend the journey for 2 days and return the next day, then it will cost you about Rs. 15,000.

But the problem again will be of the Manali Leh Bus service. HPTDC Bus shuts down by September 15th followed by HRTC Bus in early days of October. It all depends on the weather really.

Reply

7 days from New Delhi to Leh tour and return to New Delhi.
I guess I have to read more.Actually, we were hoping to see snowclad roads also, even if it is between winter and summer. But it seems from your earlier comment that bus route from Manali to Leh will not be available then?

Vargis.Khan September 17, 2019 - 4:24 pm

Correct. The Manali Leh route opens usually by late May or early June and then the bus service starts by Mid June. You will find some snow on the road but only at the top of Rohtang Pass and Baralacha La.

Hi Vargis,

We are planning a road trip from Srinagar-Leh-Nubra-Pangong-Srinagar in July/August. We usually take a self-drive vehicle but I’m not sure of the Srinagar-Leh highway. What would the road be like if we self-drive or is it better to take a driver?
Spoke to a couple of people for car cost from Srinagar for a 10 day trip. The prices are varying a lot and I don’t understand the differences. 1 person said 70k, another said 60k and third is saying 46k. All of them include driver allowances, tolls, taxes, fuel and parking for the entire itinerary. I don’t know how they are including Ladakh as well since outside rented taxis aren’t allowed for Ladakh. What should I ask them or keep in mind which will help me book the car I want and not face problems later. I want the car at my disposal so I can stop along the way for sightsee, tourist places or food.

Thanks!

I will love to have your feedback if it is doable and if I can have a local rider buddy I can take with me taking care of all costs? Regards

Reply
Vargis.Khan March 22, 2019 - 4:30 pm

It is doable Sanjeev but entirely depends on how well can you handle the bike. There is a lot of snow on the road towards the top of the pass so it will be a very challenging task. I know people who have done it but it won’t be an easy thing to do.

Hello Sir

How to prebook the taxi? Is there any contact available or online site? As we are from south India, we don’t know Hindi and also want to prebook in order to avoid last minute mess up. We need to book from April 13 to April 21. We have following itinerary and is it fine

April 13 – pick up Airport to Hotel
April 14 – Leh Local sightSeeing
April 15 – Leh to Diskit
April 16 – Diskit to Turtuk and back Panamik
April 17 – Leh
April 18 & 19 & 20 – Pangong – Chushul – Tso Moriri – Leh
April 21 – drop at Airport

What is the expected cost for the taxi? Also provide some good hotels in Leh, Diskit, Panamik, Pangong, Tsomoriri

Thanks in advance

Regards
Bala

Hi Bala,

Talk to Nasir in Leh at 9906229203. He run his own taxi there and you can book him. He can also advise about the hotels there at all other places.

Dear Mr Vargis Khan
In July 2019 we are planning for Ladakh trip. We are taking taxi from Jammu to Leh and return. Can we see places of tourist interest enroute as war memorial at Drass, magnetic hill, Lamayuru,Mulbek,Pathar sahib, etc. as outside taxi is not allowed in Ladakh.
Thanks in advance.
