While majority of the people traveling to Ladakh use their own vehicle to get there; as well as for local sightseeing; a lot of us not really have that luxury available. There could be several reasons behind it. Some people do not feel comfortable riding or driving in that terrain; others live a bit too far to bring their own vehicles and a lot of people would rather catch a flight because they are short on time. One of the biggest reasons however is budget. Traveling by your own vehicle would of course be a lot more expensive if you just caught a bus to reach your destination. Whatever the reason maybe; reaching Leh and using Ladakh bus service or shared taxis for local sightseeing is also becoming a popular way for a trip to Ladakh.
If you too are planning a trip to Ladakh by public transport; then below is the schedule of Ladakh Bus service for the year 2017. A friend of mine, Kaustubh, recently traveled to Ladakh and was kind enough to click the pictures below and send.
The images above have schedules of all bus services to all the popular tourist destinations in Ladakh. The second and third image are the same. Just that the first one is a bit dark, hard to read; and the flash made some parts of third image unreadable so I kept them both in the article.
Frequency of Ladakh bus service has really been a challenge; in case the days of the availability of the bus do not match your itinerary then another great option is to travel by shared taxis.
