Visiting Kashmir makes people nervous; there is no denying this fact. When you talk about a vacation to someplace beautiful, the questions that comes to mind are like what to see there; how many days to go for etc. But when you talk about a Kashmir trip, the first question that gets asked is whether or not it is safe to go. I am not saying that it is not right to feel that way. Considering all the violence in the valley that you hear about on the news; everyone would think twice before heading to Kashmir.
I too fall in the same category. I have been to Kashmir several times but it was always either while going to Ladakh; or coming back from Ladakh. So the only places I had seen there were the ones that were actually located on Srinagar – Leh highway.
Ironically enough, Kashmir had always been one of my favorite destinations in terms of scenic beauty. But all that was after looking at the pictures over the web; pictures that other people clicked and posted. I never really gave a serious thought about exploring Kashmir valley and spending some time savoring on the vistas here. It is now time to change that. It is now time to plan a Kashmir trip and see this beautiful part of our country.
I initially thought of making this a road tip and traveling by my Thar. But that meant spending 4 days just for going to Srinagar from Delhi and coming back. That journey too on a route that I have already traveled on at least 10 times before. So after much thought, I decided to book a flight and make it an air trip. That way, I could use my 4 days to see more places in Kashmir itself rather than driving to and from Delhi.
So the trip next week is now finalized; and I must admit that I am really excited about it; so much that I bought a new DSLR just for this trip. The task of Itinerary is actually still pending and I am still deciding what all places to explore. I will be traveling with a few friends and the idea is to reach Srinagar, rent a couple of bikes there and see Kashmir. I will post more information on the places I went to and how to visit there after I return from my Kashmir trip. This is one travelogue that even I am very excited to write.
