Where to Hire a Taxi in Kashmir?
There are numerous travel agents and taxi providers that you can contact to rent a taxi in Kashmir. The entire city seems to be in the tourism business. You can, in fact, rent a cab from right outside the airport as well.

How to rent a Taxi in Kashmir?
There are a few things that you should know about renting a taxi in Kashmir. The first is that there are no set or decided rates.
There is a rate list for sure but it is not really enforced by the union like in the case of places like Ladakh and Manali. So if you were told that it is a standard rate and the union won’t allow going lower, don’t believe it.
How much you pay for a taxi in Kashmir will entirely depend on your negotiation skills, the duration of the trip, and the places covered.
The second thing to know is that the taxi you hired in Srinagar will not be allowed for sightseeing in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam. All these three places have their own group of taxi drivers and they do not allow non-local taxis to ply their routes.
So for example, if you hired a taxi from Srinagar to Pahalgam, it will only drop you at Pahalgam. For visiting places like Aru Valley, Betab Valley, etc you will have to rent a local Pahalgam taxi.
Should you rent on the spot from the Airport?
I will not recommend it because then you will end up paying more. Book a taxi in advance, negotiate hard, and have the driver pick you up from the airport.
Taxi Rates in Srinagar
If you did not book a taxi in advance and wanted to get a cab from the airport to your hotel in Srinagar, it will cost you around Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1200 for a drop anywhere in the city.

Is an Uber cab available in Srinagar?
No, Uber is not available in Srinagar yet. You will have to hire a local taxi from the airport or your hotel. Not just in Srinagar, Uber is not available anywhere in the Kashmir region.
Is Ola cab available in Srinagar?
Like Uber, Ola is also not available in Srinagar or anywhere else in Kashmir.
Taxi Rates in Gulmarg
If you hired a taxi from Srinagar to Gulmarg, it will drop you all the way except for the winter season. During winter, the taxi will only bring you to Tangmarg, about 14 kilometers from Gulmarg.
From here on, you will have to rent another 4×4 taxi with snow chains for the final stretch of the journey and pay another Rs. 1000 for it. For more details, please read Taxi Rates in Gulmarg.
Gulmarg is just a small town and you do not really need a taxi for sightseeing here. But if you do, the Srinagar taxi will not be good enough for it. You will have to rent another taxi here to show you around.
