Citibank Credit Cards Review

I have been using a Citibank Indian Oil credit card for a while now and this is a short review of how I found their services to be. Surprisingly this also seems to be their most popular credit as most of the people that I know of possessing a Citibank credit card has this one. It is just my opinion though, may or may not be true.

Coming back to the topic, Citibank is probably one of the oldest and definitely one of the largest operating banks in the world. They provide a wide range of services and to be quite honest, I think their services as I have been told are better than several other large banks we have in India. They are invested in banking transactions, Citibank markets insurance, credit cards, and investment products. On the credit cards front, like all other banks, they have a wide range to offer. The Citibank Indian Oil credit card rewards its users in a decent enough way if not lucrative every time a transaction is made at an Indian oil gas station. You earn point, accumulate and then can redeem them for free fuel. Every one point earned is equivalent to Rs. 1 so for example if you have earned 100 points, you get free fuel worth Rs. 100.

Billing: I use this credit card extensively and have been making all my fuel purchases in my credit card. In the last 7 years, there has never been a billing discrepancy in my monthly statements. I am one of those people who have a habit of going through a statement carefully, line by line, before making the payment but in case of my Citibank Indian Oil Credit card, even if some day I pay without checking the statement, I still would have my peace of mind and it wouldn’t bother me much.

Transparency: Last year I was in need of some money on urgent basis and took a loan on card on all of my credit cards. I borrowed a certain amount on my Citibank Indian Oil credit card as well that was paid off within next few months. The information I was provided with in terms of charges and interest at the time of taking the loan was completely in sync with what I later found on my statement for few months until I paid off the balance. There were no hidden charges, no catch that I wasn’t made aware of.

Payment: Like all other banks, they have an online payment system as well as cheque payments. You can drop in a cheque at a drop box or make an online payment from Citibank account or from any other Bank account through Bill desk. For Bill desk payments, it usually takes a few working days before your payment is credited to your account.

Credit Limit: My credit limit has been raised several times in past 7 years to a quite big amount. Every time I made a large purchase exhausting my card completely, I immediately received a call next day asking if I wanted a limit raise. Upon my approval, my limit was revised.

Customer Service: Customer service is pretty OK except for the fact that it takes a really long time to reach a live person if you called their call center number. The average time is just way too long but then I think this is the case with almost every customer care out there these days.

Reward System: As I stated earlier in this article, I use my credit card just to take benefit of their reward system. The reward system is satisfying enough.

Final Verdict: Final word would be that I have been pretty satisfied with Citibank Indian Oil credit card and would definitely recommend it to a friend.

I would love to hear more feedback from people who are using either a Citibank Indian Oil credit card or any of their other credit cards. If you are using one, please feel free to comment and share your experience.
